The case of the miraculous leak.

After pulling the t-case 3 times and the engine once, welding the camshaft oil seal shut, replacing the rear main seal twice, resealing the oil pan, putting a new valve cover seal on, the SAME EXACT leaking still appears. It runs down from the right rear of the engine. My only guess now is that its leaking out from the inner part of the rear main seal and the crank is flinging it up. So the question is, how does oil leak out of that spot through a new OEM main seal? It was thoroughly greased before installation. Is there some way to fix this? Already tried Seafoam. Also drained the oil and put in 15w-40.

You probably Would have noticed this since the rear seal retainer comes right off, but is the crank scored from crusty old rear seal?

Can/do oil seals break in?

Could crankcase pressure cause this?

Seal should work fine to begin with as long as it was lubed.

Crankcase pressure can certainly exascerbate a leak, but the B engines vent pretty well out of the draft tube. Any chance a PO blocked off the draft tube because they got sick of cleaning up oil?

They did something to it.. There’s a small hole next to what they plugged. I noticed the dipstick tube also had to small slits in it which I welded back up when I had the engine out. The PO must’ve been up to no good

I ran it awhile without the oil cap on. No change. Maybe it needs a speedi sleeve?

What would YOU do in my situation? Anyone? I'm planning on taking the engine out tomorrow. again.

How much is it leaking?

Leaves a two inch stain on the ground after parking. Can smell a tinge of oil burning occasionally while driving (hills especially)
