Ahhhh Fxxx.....
EXCLUSIVE: San Francisco’s Anchor Brewing acquired by Sapporo

This one really hurts. Anchor along with Sierra Nevada and Stone are what really kicked off craft breweries in the US and good beer in the US in general.

Anchor steam has long been one of my go to beers for good easy taste and drinking.

Need to know the best breweries of around Boone/Blowing Rock? AMB is good and Blowing Rock Brewing has some good stuff.

What about some of these?

Lost Province
Flat Top
Booneshine

We are going the following route at least one way - but will be late Friday and early Sunday when we are travelling.

Pittsboro
Asheboro
Lexington
Statesville
Hickory
Lenoir
Blowing Rock
Boone

I'll start with my least favorite.

Lost Province has gotten better - their beer was s*** before. I don't frequent there at all - though if you are downtown Boone you can't beat the location.

AMB always has good beer and a good selection - it gets crazy on the weekends if you don't go early. Pizza truck is almost always there, so there's food also.

Booneshine is my favorite - always has good beer on tap and multiple options. It's located inside Basil's - you can grab a good sandwich to eat with it - they have other food, but their sandwiches are the best part of the menu. Service for food can be spotty, but it doesn't bother me. Booneshine is definitely the least crowded. You don't have to sit down at Basil's if you just want beer - they have a bar counter. You can walk to AMB from Booneshine and vice versa if you are parked and don't feel like moving the vehicle. Both are outside King St. and the downtown walk/'scene' - but I'd go to either one before Lost Province.

If you want/need a good selection of beer/wine package goods, Peabody's is a great beer/wine store and close to Booneshine/AMB.

In Blowing Rock, Blowing Rock Brewing Company has good beer, I don't think they have a ton of seletion on tap - maybe 4 or so if I remember correctly. It also gets crazy busy on the weekends, as expected......

Never went inside Flat Top, rarely go to Banner Elk, so I can't tell you if it's any good or not. hth.

Have not been to Lost Province or tried anything from them.

Flat Top is a great little place to kick back and have a brew, not a huge selection but a good one.
@GarnerFJ40 went there with me so he could provide some insight also.

AMB is not my favorite brews but their location is awesome, always busy, and generally have a few rotators that are pretty good.

Granite Falls Brewing is also good and never seems to be busy, great location and had some stellar brews, their blonde is my favorite NC blonde I had.

Olde Hickory is good.

Boonshine is awesome also

Peabodies is an amazing beer store better than bruisin ales in ways.

I really need to start brewing triple locked again... got to see if my apartment manager is ok with me using a turkey fryer on one of the roofs.

I have made, with the help of a buddy that used to work for Deschutes, brewed an extremely small batch of a barrel aged stout.... well barrel aged is misleading... aged with bourbon chips. But it was only a gallon batch. Hi'm pretty much getting 2 bombers out of the deal, but i'm hoping it turns out good.

AMB is making some decent Cider now, btw.

Thanks for the input gentlemen!!

They usually have some sours on tap, too, if you swing that way......

I have yet to truly develop the advanced palate required to enjoy sours. Perhaps someday after a bout with some horrible disease I will be able to drink sours.

I found them to be similar to your first ipa.

Not so hot but the next one was better. Also best not to mix with other styles of beer. However. Too many will give you the sour belly that has never been rivaled by other beverages.

A trip to the funkatorium may cure you ;)

Or start with something leas funky.

Westbrook brewing makes a good one (white can) and also makes evil twins göse. Dogfishes lime and sea salt is another one. Best to try on a hot day and is quite refreshing........ for some. YRMV

IDK the first IPA I ever had...25 or so years ago... was a Hahpoon (no "r" in Massachusetts) and it was love at fist sip.
For sours, if I'm looking for that, I'll find a beer I like, drink too much, and just puke it back into my mouth.

Like said. YRMV

I had the Westbrook as our local craft brew place guys told me the same. It was bearable. I am drinking about 1 a week - so am legit working on it - Wife loves them, but she eats that Sour Patch or whatever candy, too and loves dry Ciders.

IPAs have been a natural progression of from Boulevard Pale Ale - always getting better and never thought the class of beer was "bad" at any point.

This week I had the Steel String Picklemania. I think it would have been better with some real pickle juice in it like a 1/2 and 1/2 mix or something :)

All this ridiculous talk of weirdo-style beer flavors is way out of hand. Let's just get back to finishing the argument over if beer tastes better from green or brown bottles. That's right 'clear bottle' fans who think the world wants to see your cute little slices of fruit...you're not even in the race.

Anyone had the Imperial Hop Drop 'N Roll yet from NoDa?

I have Hop Drop 'N Roll all the time!! Love that beer. The bottle shop by my house stocks it.

Yes - It is everything I love in hoppy West Coast-style beer - I am excited to try the imperial :) I guess they are selling in the growler now at the brewery.

Unrelated - I have 2 empty NoDa growlers in the Boone area if anyone ever wants them.....
