Commin down Big Sluice :grinpimp: The group that had gone down earlier to stack some rocks to keep the taller rigs out of that tree jokingly they yelled up "$10 or we unstack all the rocks".So I yelled back "Go ahead and start un stacking,I will be down in a minute".They looked puzzled

This is exactly where I put my 55 on its side three times.I have a bunch of rock rash on my rear quarter protection form those rocks by the right rear tire.Looks a lot different with some daylight :D

Glad to see it wasnt just me that had some issues :D

I had to winch this section to keep my right rear qtr off the tree and rock!

pkp80 took a quick strap to get back to earth.

Clint

thanks Matt. pics look great!!

here are a few more.

Rubithon09229.jpg

Hey, my rear quarter panel snuck into the top of that pic!

I didn't attend Rubithon, but did meet up and chat with the Wagon group on their way down Big Sluice. Great bunch of guys. The group at the Springs looked like fun too, I think I'll try to talk the wife into attending next year.

Chris

This will take a couple of installments. I only got a few first day pics uploaded last night. There will probably be some duplicates.

The :princess: and I decided to meet up with the other Portland folk the night before at Loon lake and we're glad we did. Ice House road was longer and slower than we thought. We made it to the dam and saw our fellow campers.

While on the granite after we were settled in I heard a familiar sound as another 4bt came to life from this fj80. So naturally we ended up chatting and looking at each other's rigs. It was fun having another cummins in our group.

My wife liked the jeep quote and Pighead's rig.

With that over we started the trail at Loon Lake. I slotted myself after CaliCruiser and stuck with Dirtgypsy and PortFJ62.

There were plenty of spotters and the run was well guided. Cruiserdrew (Andy) did and excellent job and really did make the trail enjoyable. I took the drive to survive suggestion to heart and decided to take it easy and enjoy the experience.

Coming down off a ledge I knicked my tailpipe. Dirtgypsy came off the same ledge and pinched his pipe shut. Skillful use of some vice grips opened that thing.

I was told to motor around and keep going up walker hill.

Clint was on a good line and then he tried yanking Dillan. That didn't work out and Clint had to fight his way back on the line to keep going.

2248124980041288937S600x600Q85.jpg

Oblivious to what was going on below (ended up being a broken long side rear shaft on Dillan's rig) I keep following the guy in front of me and made it through a tight spot without a guide.

2724840200041288937S600x600Q85.jpg

I wheeled up to the corner and parked it to see what was holding them up.

2372369530041288937S600x600Q85.jpg

The chain continued and parked at a clearing for snacks. That's when we heard about the broken rear long 60 shaft. I brought just a long side just in case and gave it to the cause to get Dillan up and running. Then it was back to the trail. I was following Dillan since he had been on the trail before but now I ended up behind the fj80s.

This spotter was good but his hand signals took a little getting used to. Overall he helped out quite a bit once you understood his style.

That was just the first day and I loved every minute of it. I couldn't wait to continue the trail the next day. I have to thank my wife for grabbing all these pics. She took them with one hand while she grabbed video in the other!

Great pics guys! I would love to check out the Rubicon one day.

fantastic shots mike. tell your wife thank you!

What did you use for tie downs in the rear of your truck? I can't remember seeing them finished.

It's just those coretrax rails I put in a while ago with rachets. Everything pretty much stayed put. I do plan on making a low platform and having "under the bed" sized tubs for supply containment.

Mike those are excellent shots dude. Great to meet you guys and hopefully we can we again sooner than later.

Dylan

Figures I spelled your name wrong. When are you getting some polys? ;p

again great pics man. can't wait to see the vid.

yo dude. you need to come to mcgrew. easy drive and worth the effort.

Mike-I really enjoyed the pics, thanks for taking the time to post them.

Looking forward to the video. I saw your wife shooting video all weekend and wondered what would happen to the images.

I'm checking on Mcgrew, that would be awesome.

I'm not sure on the Poly's yet Mike. Right now I have some ideas rolling around of an axle swap but it was likely due to age and fatigue. If an axle swap does not happen, I'll swap in some Polys in and call it a day. Thanks again for digging out the axle to get me off the trail and caught up to the group!!!!!

Dylan-The Poly's are good. If you do that 80 rear swap, I'm right there with you. I also liked Frizzlefry's D70 conversion. There are many very good options.

Anyway-I have 3 years and 8 Rubicons (forward and back)/2 Dusy's and think the Polys are a great bargain for the $$. Until you're running a motor with big power, I think the Polys will hold up.

Here are a few first dayers that didn't get in the batch.

The old school got to lead the chain this time with Clint being the trial line guinea pig. Guess he didn't enjoy the smell of a cold diesel engine :meh: (Don't blame him, I didn't get a chance to warm up before we hit the trail again)

As I started over this rock I gently came down on my slapped together skid plate. Andy asked if I was confident with the weight on that plate and I said I didn't know since that plate had never been tested. I continued anyways and can report that the skid held up.
