Super curious about the LX version.![]()
I have integrated iPads into 3 of my Vehicles and they are perfect but, have so many limitations. I had a LS430 with a full size iPad and 2 iPad Minis in 2 of my 80s. They were stand alone and I had no FM Radio (didn't miss it) but, even Jailbroken I had no way to use them in the 100 or 200 series unless they were mounted over the stock Headunit. This Android System is clunky compared to IOS for sure but, way better than stock. Apple Car Play can be installed on a USB Dongle from what I have heard. I will order one next week and wire in a multi channel Amp. Your dash and interior pics are sexy BTW. That is so clean! Good Job.The unit isn’t as responsive as an iPad and isn’t super high quality but it’s way better then the stock nav and stereo

Here is a picture of the plug that comes out of the amp on my 04 and it looks to be the same on the 06 in the US. If yours looks like this, that harness will work.I have the 06 with nav... this harness says 2000-2004. Not seeing any other variants, am I missing something or...?

Which amps did you use? I am also replacing the door speakers. What did you use for the sub speaker? Thanks! As far as the stereo, I replaced all the door speakers and the sub, put two small amps under the passenger seat and bypassed the factory amp, hooked the amps to the units rca outputs and it sounds awesome!
Riverhead100, Mind sharing how you routed the power wire through the firewall? Also, looks like you kept nav unit in place under seat. think its ok to remove it?Yes exactly
The controls are not very intuitive for the average user. If you are the only driver of the vehicle, you can learn the system and how it works in a short period of time. However, if you have others driving the vehicle, as I do, frustration leads to them turning the system off or leaving it on whatever is on. That can vary all over the board, but something to think about.
The usb function for my iphone does not want to work. I can play music via bluetooth, but the quality is not as good as a hard wire. I use bluetooth in town, but on longer trips I hotspot my phone via wifi to the unit and use the apps in the head unit. This is really cool because you have a fully functioning android tablet at your disposal. Many football games on espn while on the road.
The units are in metric.
Installation for some may be a drawback. For me it was not, but people with little experience in car audio might get frustrated.
That said, I am happy with the upgrade and would never go back. I will eventually install one or the tesla unit in my 2005 in the future. The amp died in my '05, so I will be transferring my '03 amp currently running my system into it. I will be installing an aftermarket amp with this system to see if it works, unlike the stock system from what I understand. I read somewhere the stock unit communicates back and forth with the stock amp. If it is not wired to do so, the head unit will not work. The Naviav unit I have may not be affected i this same way. Not sure how they programmed the system to work with the factory wiring. I have component speakers and a subwoofer installed in my '03 and the factory amp is anemic for that job. The near future will tell the tale.
no, all connections fit after reviewing a video, however i have a completely extra harness from the install. there are two that are similar. they are a breakout harness for the OEM buttons/passenge sensor on either side of the radio, the one i used has all the connectors connected, there is another one with an extra plug on it, has a thin data=type connector but it has nowhere to go. they both cant connect to the car, its an either-or affair, but im perplexed as to why they sent two sets, unless one is for US and one is ero/jdm. good news is you can change from KM to MPH and C to F on the units of measure. just gotta figure out the AC problem. and yes, i moved over the black control box from the original unit.
I had to disassemble 2 mother boards from my factory AC harness and installl them in silver box that came with the new stereo. Zero instructions came with stereo on how to do this, but it does make since when you start looking at how to secure the boards in the box.Correct.
To me, the video is misleading for someone starting with the factory unit. The unit in the video looks similar to my Naviav unit, so the hvac logic board/box transplant had already been done - it does not show it in the video. There is a silver box that communicates between the hvac and the stereo that must be transplanted in order to work. Otherwise, the buttons will not be communicating with anything.
I do not have this specific unit, but all aftermarket android units of this type will have to have a transplant on 100's with nav/hvac combined. It is not difficult, but it does take some time and patience. The effort is well worth it compared to the antiquated factory system.
Thank you!Hi, I’m using the built in Bluetooth mic, only used it a few times so far and seems to work well.... I ran the power wire through the fire wall by going through the factory rubber grommet on passenger side, then ran the power wire across the engine compartment and to the battery... as far as the under seat nav unit, when I unplugged it I lost sound to the drivers door speakers, so instead of splicing more wires I just left it plugged in.
