I got to be privy to a repair of one of these headlights over this past weekend. Gotta say, it was disappointing. Lights arrived to my buddy's house well after the lead time with connectors mismatched, only some of the lighting functional. They gave him the run around for a while before he decided to open it up. Found a power and ground wire to the high beam crimped together inside, pinched between 2 items with the shielding worn through, shorting itself. They told him that wasn't a likely cause for the issue, even though he taped both, fixed the short, and lights now work. Quality of work was low, and it seems the support he's received leaves plenty to be desired. He's on here but I think he's trying to track down the owner at this point before putting them on blast on socials.

This thread seems to have very different feedback than the FB groups. There's damn near a witch hunt starting over these on FB.

Having been active on a million different forums for a million years, these things always seem to go this way. Create a cool product, drum up interest, take in a bunch of preorders, then never stick to plans and always increase lead times. These outfits are the exact reason I'll never take preorder money and I'll never sell something I don't have my hands on at the time of sale. For the money these cost, the work quality (of what I saw) and (IMO) the cheap aesthetic, one would be so much better off just doing a retrofit in to OEM housings.
Yeah - I almost commented here based on what I've seen on Facebook. Low quality work, crazy lead times (well beyond what they quote), non-responsive/dodging customer follow-up.

IMO, someone is much better off getting Lou's bracket and retrofitting it themselves.

Yikes. And recently their social media went on a tirade about another company that does retrofit headlights for essentially the same complaints & more. I was hoping to buy a pair of these, but now maybe I'll wait. Extra disappointing since they're a NC business.

They were trying to distance themselves from BXBuilt, if I recall correctly. Good move on their part, provided they hadn't become the same thing.

Is this the bracket you mentioned? 100 Series HID Retrofit Accessory Bundle - https://theartisangarage.com/products/100-series-hid-retrofit-accessory-bundle

How many bananas is this to DIY? Never touched headlights myself. Aside from the projectors, what else do I need?

That sounds right. I remember they were up in arms over the fact that the company in question had returned under a new name.

This one is Lou's bracket:

The one you linked helps if you're using the MicroD2S projectors like I did - that's why I designed those tail caps originally.

I'd say it's... Maybe a 2.5 banana job? Just have to be careful and follow Lou's instructions. Nothing crazy, but some delicate pieces and an order you need to do things in. I think it took me maybe 6 hours to do mine? First time I had ever done headlights.

Lou's brackets, Projectors (Mini H1 or microD2S), appropriate bulbs, tailcaps/ignitors (used interchangbly best I can tell), ballasts/computers (also used interchangbly), wiring harness.

Does Lou’s bracket apply to just the LX or also the LC? I’d be working on an LC.

Oh! LCs don't need a bracket. I've never done one of those though, but my understanding is that the LCs are easier.

I got some for my 1st gen taco and they are THE BEST UPGRADE… but I did order in Jan and received them in April… so the wait wasn’t great, but the outcome was well worth it…

I ordered for OEM retro fit beginning of January. Paid up front This was based on several good reviews on IH8MUD.
They contacted me last week to send in the original housings.

I sure hope I have better results than MongooseGA's friend!
Any update on your lights?

I just sent in my OEM housing last week for retrofit and am waiting on my build to complete. How long was the actual time from when they received your lights to when you got them back?

I ordered a set with bi-led highs and new oem glass headlights. It’s been about 11 weeks. I will update when they come in, still waiting for shipment notification.

Here's what I ordered:
Retrofit Headlights / Lexus LX470 (98-07) / TEQ Customs
New Housings: I Will Send In OEM Housings‚ No Lens Replacement
Headlight Color: Chrome
Add Projector in High Beam Area: Mini Bi-LED Projector
Halos: Single Front Halo
Upgrade Halos to RGBW? (Color Changing): No
Hex Halo Upgrade: No
Demon Eyes: None
Lens Etching: None

I went with Teq Customs as I heard some good things about them. I also heard a couple bad things but it sounded like that stuff was in the past.
I decided to pay a premium since I didn't like the idea of disassembling housings and having to re-cure the epoxy/seal in my oven like I've seen people do.
Also, I figured this project would have just take too long for myself to do which is not good as my LX470 is my wife's daily driver. So I paid a premium to not have to mess with it. I did have to send in my original housing as the lens are glass and still in great shape. We went on a trip around the time we were supposed to ship them in, so Teq got an extra ~5 days or so with them. They arrived back a day or two after getting back from my trip.

My quick assessment so far (keep in mind I have zero experience with headlight customization), overall Teq did a good job with everything. These headlights are plenty bright compared to the stock halogens. They didn't tell me what brand they are. The OEM glass lenses were attached very well to the housing with good epoxy coverage and not messy. The wiring for the most part is good with the use of solderless connectors. The non-colored halos can switch between white and amber which can be tied into the blickers, which I did. Difficult to tell the quality of the components. The parts, LED drivers, are generically marked. My first thought is they are chinese origin. The drivers are getting hot to the touch, to the point where I can only touch for a second before it starts burning. Everything fits well, halos, projector lenses, etc.
It's probably as good a job if I did it myself. Probably better with regards to the epoxy application and cleanliness.

I'm trying to aim them now but its not yet clear to me how to rotate them.

Yeah those solder less connections are what failed on mine.
Good to know!
I soldered in the running and turn lights.
When I get some time, I'll likely solder these in also.
The LED drivers get so damn hot. I'm placing miniature heatsinks on them. I live in Phoenix and its already 112F here. Can't image how fast these will die if the heat can't get out!

They delivered them with the solderless connections or those were added during installation back into the truck? You would think at this price point they would splice/solder (what I have seen called a military splice) vs going that route. Its why someone like me would pay a professional vs doing it myself...

That's how they were delivered. I replaced 3 of the 4 in mine with those heat shrink solder all on one tube things. They did some questionable manufacturing things like using those clip on splices even tho there's a spade connection right next to it.

I got my retrofits installed yesterday and just wanted to give my input as another point of reference. Initial impressions are very good. I'm quite impressed with the headlights. I have never had retrofits before so all of this is new to me, so take my opinion for what it is.

First impressions are:
1) The glue to seal the headlights looks neat and there's very little oozing out of the edge. What is visible is covered by the headlight trim once installed.
2) Like others above have said the wire connections could probably be better. If they do start to fail at one point, it would be easy enough to solder the wires or reconnect using some other type of connector.
3) I did get new glass housings installed and these look good. They definitely add some heft to the headlights compared to my plastic housings that I originally had. My original platic housings were also oxidizing on the inside of the lens, so these new lenses are a vast improvement in clarity.
4) The operation of the lights is just like OEM. I didn't know and didn't see anyone post about the DRL function or if there would be a light on the dash after these retrofits were installed. I'm happy to say the DRL function is disabled and there is no light on the dash. Win win for me as I was not a fan of the DRL's.
5) Installation was super easy. I ordered probably some of the most basic headlights that TEQ offers, so installtion was easy. It was literally two connections, one for the lowbeams and one for where the high beams used to be.
6) Last night I took the rig out for a test drive and can say that these things are STUPID BRIGHT!!! Unfortunately, I was gettting flashed by a few other drivers. So, today I had to adjust my headlights down quite a bit, but that was easy to do and took about 15 minutes.

Not that I'm any good at it, but I did a tap splice:

Basically this but solder it at the end:

Looks like a twin to my 2002 LX 🙂
You must have a '03 or '04? Mine are glass housings.

What brand are your LED fog lights?
