Hello y'all
Im looking for some insight on t-case options, here is where I'm at:

80 series with cummins and NV4500, I have access to a split case which will work with an AA adapter. the split case is from an 82 bj60 (2.276 low)
another option is a Dana 300 (came in jeeps ) with a much cheaper adapter, t-case input shaft.

Im not looking for super low gearing in low, I have enough power with the cummins I would be afraid to go lower than 2.276.

What do you think?

Go with the Toyota split case.

You would not want to put that Dana 300 in a Toyota Jeep Station wagon that has a Brazilian-made diesel engine in it.

np205 is damn near bullet proof, but heavy. Im not sure of the reduction, but if you break one you are doing something god doesnt want you to do. Or you are drunk. :grinpimp:

Or both? ;)

how are they for weight?

Wow- A 205/SM465 Combo weighs almost 300 lbs. I knew they were heavy, but I will never be dropping those without a thirdperson again. It was hard with two people under it.
I single handedly removed my tranny/case in my mini and had no issue.
Just a reminder of safety, never realized it was that heavy. /end slight hijack

google must not be your friend

4WheelingPlus.com ::

Thanks that helps, I would trust the experience of Mud of other sites, but you are right... ;)

Now to find out where to find a passenger drop and what would be involved in bolting to my NV4500.

why not the D300 with upgraded jokes .. ?

sure an split case it's a nice option but I have a D300 good rated in my books 2.62:1 low ..

You mean upgraded yokes?

You will need the larger shafts, etc. if you are going to run that case...

Then it is not a stock case..

I would run a Dana 300 in almost anything, after it has been upgraded...but at that point, it would make more sense money-wise to just purchase an Atlas and get the good stuff, right from the get-go.

I run an Atlas II in my junk.

:meh:

You want to run a centered rear output transfer case?

What are you doing with the stock fuel tank?

What are you doing with your rear axle?

Probably closer to three grand, getting it to canada...

the np205 is a heavy sumbitch! w/ a low of 1:96 ratio

As far as installing one by yourself, I doubt it!

I did the combo mentioned above and it's ok! the low gear on the 465 helps a lot the crawling ratio of the 205.

I also installed the twin sticks and a 32 spline rear outputshaft.

I also have a 14 bolt in the rear and still have the 40/toy front axel. I have a narrow frontw/ 8 lug adapters/spacers and wide rear.

I tried the cruiser in hot springs, Ar. and I liked it.

I had some carnage though, broke rear d-shaft and diff yoke, but nothing to the mighty np205

If you are refering to the idea of me installing the tranny/case in my mini, they are both aluminum... Im not saying I didnt used the jack, but it was a hell of a lot easier than doing the many 205/465 cases that have passed through our shop.

We run a 205 in one of our heep scramblers, its on 38's and runs 4.10's in the diff. The road behavior is really good, but its being pushed by to many ponies.

Slap it in low and there is alot of gearing left to be desired, but its not an issue unless you are trying to be a technical wheelin' machine. Most of the terrain we see doesnt get that technical, but once in a blue moon we need the gears.

I personally run a 4.7 kit in my mini, and the lower gearing has gotten me an unfair advantage, even when the jeeps running tires nearly 5" taller than mine.

If the rear axle is staying L.C. (offset diff) then better stay with the split case.

If the rear axle can be swapped, or is already being swapped to something with a centered diff, then HANDS DOWN the dana 300, or an NP241. You will want the lower gearing, both are strong cases, and both should be easily adaptable to the nv4500. 241s came attached to the nv4500 from the factory in dodges and GM trucks (although the 241HD that came behind the cummins/nv4500 combo was a little different from the rest). The 241 would need to get a SYE. Both cases have the same bolt pattern. Pretty sure a bunch of 300s were 27 spline, and most of the NV4500s were also 27 spline. Almost ALL 241s are 27 spline. Oh yeah, 241 should have 32spline output in the front factory... rear is also 32 spline but slip yoke. (damn slip yoke! could have been the perfect T.C.!)
