Serious question about the swine flu shots vaccinations whatever... and I don't mean for this to become a political discussion, just wondering what everyone is doing about this? If you have school-age kids are you having them get the vaccine? My kids' doctor won't say yes or no on whether we should do it. I have my doubts both ways... so what's everyone else doing or what's your opinion?

I am going to get mine tonight. The wife and our 12 yo niece (she lives with us) will not be getting one.

My wife has some very "natural type" freinds that say the vaccine is not good for anyone. I disagree and will get it because it is free and I don't believe that it will have any adverse effects on me. I will also get the seasonal flu vaccine, like I do every year.

I haven't had a flu for as long as I can remember. I very seldom get sick. My wife on the other hand, quite often has cold and flu symtoms.

And we now call it the H1N1 or hini flu. Swine flu give the pork industry a bad rap.

Me the wife and kid (7yr) all got the seasonal vaccine, but none of us have gotten the H1N1 vaccine. Mostly because it's a big PITA to get it. You have to go down to the ballpark, when they have the clinic, and wait in huge lines. Fxxx it. We had 3 confirmed cases at work and that was more than a month ago, after that the swiney flu has been quiet around here.
My doctor has urged me to get the whole family vaccinated. If it's easy to get it, like at my doctors office when I'm already there anyway, I'll get it. Otherwise, probably not.

no for my 2yr old, wife, or myself. ill let the immune system do what it is supposed to. my 2yr old has never had any vaccines, and is the healthiest kid i know of.

there are some serious diseases that a kid should be vaccinated for - Mumps, German Measles, Whooping Cough, Diphtheria, Scarlet Fever, Rubella and particularly Polio come to mind - it is worth talking about it to your pediatrician

Arizona is not exactly an isolated state with a homogenous non-traveling population......

Howdy! Yea, this is a tough one to make a call on. It has certainly been dangerous, but not nearly as bad as the CDC wanted us to believe in the young and early days of the warnings. There seemed to be a noticable surge just after school started in the fall, but again, not as big as expected. To me, the scariest part is that is seems to be much more severe in younger victims. I think more teens have died from it than Senior Citizens. I think what has made me loose more faith in the vaccine is that fact that the supply was a joke. Two thirds of the original production was thrown out due to quality control issues. DUH? It should of been plentiful back in the spring and summer, and it is still hard to find now. Kinda makes you wonder why here in the good ol USA, we still make the vaccine from chicken eggs, but much of Europe is using synthetic vaccines, including H1N1, with good results. John

Have fun getting him into school, daycare, structured learning goups, etc. - they all require immunization records now...I was just asked for my three year old daughter when signing her up for "Apples to Zebras", a head start class for pre schoolers...

We have 5 month old twins, so our pediatrician recommended it, along with our 2.5 year old. We're actually going to get them today. We debated heavily, but our pediatrician expects swine flu to pass through every family in some form or another by spring. If we did get it, we likely wouldn't die (as the media wants you to believe) but it will take you out for a week as you're useless.

So, we decided to go for it, and we carefully scrutinize every vaccine, there are some we have not done, but we are doing this.

All five of us have had the seasonal.

The 3 year old and 6 year old have had the H1N1 shot and need the booster. The 8 year old needs the injectable adult version that has been hard to find. Granted we haven't tried that hard but need to as she happens to be the one at highest risk.

For us it was a relatively easy decision. Especially after talking to a few docs and our neighbor a discharge nurse at UMC hospital. Kids are the ones taking the brunt of this and we therefore saw the risk of bad reaction much, much less than them actually getting H1N1 with the possibility of complications.

YMMV, you have to do what is comfortable for you and yours.

WRT to all childhood immunizations, it is really a fxxx up not doing it. No other way around it.

My family didnt get the shots. It sounds like the nasal spray method has the live strain - diluted but live which some reports said to say away from versus the shots. The CPC is pushing for children or the elderly but came out today with a report that the H1N1 was no worse than the normal flu and much less worse than originally projected as seen in this article:

H1N1 Swine Flu Less Severe Than Feared

No shots for the kid at all,ex wifes kinda hippie thinking, have to agree with her on some of the shot sequence, additives, and what not. East meets West goes fishing.
