It's not the uniball that's the issue, it's the Teflon liner that degrades with any type of contaminates. I worked for a company that made uniball upper and lower arms with high quality FK heims (trophy truck quality) and they would have issues even here in CA.

ok, so will the SPC UCA work with extended travel?

So on the Overland Warehouse spec Radflo coilovers:
Metaltech 4x4 just drop ships directly from Radflo.
I spoke with Radflo and anyone can order the OW spec, it just needs to be noted on their order form.
But Radflo coilovers are about 4 weeks or so out right now.

So the question is how good is this OW spec vs the ICONs?
Is it worth waiting for...idk right now.

Icons are the gold standard, not sure I would compare the two.

Um, I would. A straight 2.5" shock vs having an external reservoir; progressive vs digressive valving; spring rates. I am not saying one is better than the other, but both - along with Fox, King - are high-end, tunable, rebuildable - and all have slight variations. If you're going to drop the coin and only want to do it once, determining exactly what you want/need and seeing which one is the best fit is the right thing to do. Buying one over the other because everyone else does makes no sense; buying one over another because a person who has only run one says "it's the bestest evah" also makes no sense.

Not to confuse the OP even further but let's throw the new ARB BP51 coilovers and shocks in the mix. External reservoir, internal bypass, double adjustable, and price competitive with all the brands we're discussing here.

I am basing it on the installs I have seen with the GX. Icons seem to be the best out of the box for fitment and function without tinkering. Now, if the OP is handy and wants to design, install, and tune a suspension, there is always better. I was stating that if you want an out of the box solution that fits, works, and has been proven on the platform...there ya go.

I wish I had the time and money to go completely custom on the suspension or juat tune it to the apec I want but that's just not an option. I don't even have time to wait for the Radflos.
So I am leaning towards ICONs and the Camburg UCAs.
The camburg ucas look really nice.

They're the marketing standard and a popular choice, but I wouldn't call them the gold standard.

I have arrived to stir the pot and to say that I love Radflo and Total Chaos. Their products are top notch, their customer service is excellent and they have options for straight bolt in to completely custom. I ran Radflo's 2.0 adjustable fronts for 50k miles with just a tricked rear air bag sensor, until recently upgrading to Total Chaos long travel with Radflo 2.5's remote resi with external adjustability and their secondary bypass setup. THose same 2.0's are still doing work on another GX here on the board too, without a rebuild or any problems.

I've also ridden in and driven many different Toyotas with Icon systems of different stages with all manner of different control arms. THe long and short of it is that these products are so similar in quality and design that you wouldn't know the difference in ride between them unless someone told you what was what.

Since my most recent build, I was able to establish great relationships with both Radflo and Total Chaos and couldnt recommend a better pair of suspension companies to give my business and also refer others to as well. Radflo is all of the performance at a lower price point and Total Chaos is UNMATCHED build quality. Im telling you, the welds they put out could be in Playboy, they're so sexy. Plus, and this is a big one for me, they have the best customer service you cold possibly ask for. When I place an order for my customers, they are quick to respond and ship the order. If I have a problem, they are there to help me sort it out. Simply put, they are good people, period.

So there it is, my complete opinion based on years of wheeling my GX and being completely immersed in the Toyota scene. No charge for my 2 cents this time.

All that said, I have Iron man front with Total Chaos UCAs, Iron Man rear with Icon 2.0 shocks...I am a mutt. :)

Thanks everyone for all your input, it has been very helpful!

Good luck! I plan on going long travel with Icons as the final destination, if that helps, but it is a bit more than just a lift!

So any one else have an opinion on the Total Chaos stainless steel uniball UCAs and holding up in bad weather and s***ty salted roads?

Well everything is ordered. I will be installing Icon extended travel coilovers, Camburg ball joint UCA, new front skid plate, cv axles, sway bar bushings, 275/70R17 Cooper Discoverer AT/3 tires, front brake rotors, pads, and lines once everything comes in and I find the time.
Next will be to fgure out what I want to do with the rear and when I will have the time to swap over to coils.
I want to do Icon rear shocks and Metal Tec spring conversion.
The question will what Icon shocks and what springs to run.
