Surf n' Turf 2007-08?

My wife and I were having dinner in Carpinteria this past weekend, and she kicked me under the table and said "Look, there's a Cruiser right there" and I turned around and saw a built burgundy 80 driving by on Casitas Pass Rd. When I got to my truck, there was a note from Jim complimenting my 80 and asking me to come up to Surf N Turf, and a sticker from last year's event.

Jim, thanks for the invite. Looks like I'm going.

as long as you like getting salt water everywhere.

Check out the videos of the FJ team from last year, they were catching some big air in the waves.

And if you time it wrong, driving in the deep creek crossing will be the only way in.
Check tide tables, last year with the full moon it was plus 12 feet or something crazy, so make sure you go a ways up the beach to camp if you come in late at night.

Tarps are good wind breaks between rigs and the tents next to those.
 
what's the word on the oinker?
should I be looking for banana leaves?
 
It came from Canada, and made great smelling breakfasts! He had to do something to get the crowds away from his diesel...

my camp was right next to it, the one with the two headless people and ginormous tents.

the 6 wheeled 70 is sick! LOL! (looks like the photochop victim)

can I scratch the 40 and just carry my half gallon Growler of Firestone instead?
 
I dunno the story. Only that Sheldon borrowed it from a friend. Has a pintle type hitch too. :cool:

I don't think we need another visit from the porn star. Although, who was the dude looking for "rubbers" in the early dawn of Saturday. He must have had the hang-over of the century. Not to mention the burning sleeping bag. Talk about "HOT".

Can't wait. It sould be another great time.
 
I work in a drugstore now. So I'm going to be bringing probably 3 coolers full of drinks for whomever would like some. Any preferences?


Since I'm not 21, I cannot buy alcohol at a discounted price.



If no one cares, Pepsi is what you will be getting.
 
Sorry, this is not going to happen at SnT. This unique event is the only family oriented I know of.

That's great, I figured a nice Cruiser like yours had to be owned by someone "in the know." I was lurking in the parking lot using a wi-fi hot spot when I saw your cruiser. I was in Carp for the weekend as the driver/photographer/bike mechanic/SAG wagon for Katherine and her girlfriends who were participating in the Carpenteria Triathlon. It was fun, maybe we should add an ocean swim to the SNT 5k???

Too bad I missed you. I'll look forward to meeting you at SNT.

P.S. You forgot to mention the long board strapped to the roof of your 80 Series. That's what earned you the sticker! ;)

My longboard is an 11'4" Mike Geib "Cigars of the Pharaohs" model, with 16 oz. volan cloth, a single 2.5" mahogany stringer, mahogany/balsa block tail. It's a beautiful board, but I've had a hell of a time falling in love with it. It's the first tri-fin I've ever owned (I primarily ride old boards, always have), and it's got the big adjustable True single fin with the two little "O'Fish'L" fins on the side. I've had the board a few years, but never enjoyed riding it. It just tracked way too straight, too hard to turn. Someone suggested removing the two O'Fish'L fins, which I didn't know could be removed, but I did it, and then moved the single fin all the way forward. ******* thing handles like a sports car now. Full on love affair with the thing now.

I don't know how familiar you are with Carp, but the day of the triathlon, I got up at 6 am, went to Starbucks, got my coffee, sat on the beach, read a magazine with the rising sun and watched the action down by Linden Ave. The water was glassier and more clear than I've seen it in years, and I'm at Tar Pits a lot, have been since I was about 5 years old. When the sun came up, I went snorkeling and it was amazing! Plus the water had that super smooth, kind of thick consistency, and after I snorkeled I bodysurfed for about four hours. The surf was small, but the rides were long because the water was just magically smooth and what tiny swell was there was steep and powerful. Pipeline-shaped tubes on every set, but only 1' high. I have the feeling it's gonna be a good winter.
 
I read that I need to bring some firewood, both for a personel fire and to contribute to the bonfire. No problem.

My question is, are there any requirements for pit for a "personel" firepit? i.e. a free standing pit or tub

None that I'm aware of, but a personal pit or ability to pack out your ashes would be more environmentally friendly and leave the beach much cleaner. :D
