Gas being as costly as is is now and 80's being what they are is the supercharger worth it on the highway? How much more fuel is it going to suck?
Can I tell how fast I am going by the gas gauge like a FJ40?
 
I know where you can find a used one cheap ;)

FWIW, some have gotten slightly better mileage with the blower vs without. Depends on what type of driving you are doing, what gearing, tires etc
 
supercharger = better mileage, but requires premium fuel.

Yup. Buyer sold their rig and never got around to pimping it again. LOL, too many other parts to sell after taking the 80 back to stock :lowridinjunk:

Haven't sold my truck yet. Got a few more odds/ends to remove. Right now it's back to being a stock low-rider. :eek: I feel womanish. :princess:
 
Are you selling your goodies off the truck now since it's going to be a lowrider or what?

No, not at all the case. As one who has operated a supercharged 80 for several years I speak from experience.


This is what you will find:

You MUST run premium fuel, PERIOD. DO NOT EVEN THINK that you can skate that requirement.

Your "combined" fuel economy (meaning around town and some expressway) will be about 10% less than stock.
Your "hiway" fuel economy will be about the same reduction from stock as your combined fuel economy unless you slow down to less than 60 miles per hour. In which case you will be amazed at what you will get.
Your "loaded" hiway fuel economy (meaning towing a large boat or other sizeable object) will be about 10% BETTER than stock.


Do not argue with me about these points because you will lose badly when I produce my fuel logs from day-1.

Cool. Thanks guys I am driving about 200 miles a week up from the valley to Shaver Lake and back.
 
While I don't have the fuel logs like Dan does, I would also attest to the fact that when towing (in my case, a 3500-4000 boat/trailer), you do somewhat better than without the S/C. At the same time, I would say I would not even try to tow that amount without the S/C. I know many do/have, but I don't think you can reasonably expect to maintain highway speeds on hilly/mountainous roads (on interstates) with a stock cruiser and that much weight without thrashing the heck out of your rig. With the S/C, you can do it.

Personally, I don't notice any loss of fuel economy with the S/C, but I don't keep logs, so I'd take Dan's word for it. Bottom line is that if you're worried about the diff in cost from reg to prem fuel, and any potential diff in economy, don't consider a S/C...or for that matter a LC.
 
PS: Junk - what's a LC feel like without the S/C now? I've always felt like you get used to the extra power and forget what stock is like...would be interested in hearing what the reverse is like. :rolleyes:

If you didn't live in the sticks so much you could drive it for a lil time warp thingie :flipoff2: Not that bad, but lol, I feel like my truck is about 2" off the ground. Maybe I could bracket the control arms so I could drag pavement :D
