Made a run up a steep canyon Tuesday night with some friends. Was in high range the whole time, kicking between 2nd and 3rd gear, mid RPMs. By the time I got near the top (good 20 minutes of climbing) the truck was running very hot. Supercharger was frequently pushing ~5 lbs. of boost to maintain speed. Didn't really think about my speed, just kept up with the person in front of me. Ambient temp was in the low 80's.

Did the same canyon tonight with the wife and kids. Instead of just driving on autopilot I watched the boost closely. Kept it even at 0 or slight vacuum, I would slow down or down shift to keep the supercharger from running boost. Temps never rose at all. Ambient temp was low 90's.

So, it seems that lugging the engine and pushing boost with the supercharger causes the engine (mine at least) to run much hotter. I may just be on to something elementary here, but it's a good discovery for me so I can keep the engine temps down.

Cory, it'd be nice to know your EGT's as well. They'll (usually) jack up a whole lot faster than engine coolant temps and give you some idea of how the s/c boost is creating excessive heat for the engine.

Are you monitoring your coolant temp with an additional gauge or just the dash one (modified or not)? Again, not to beat the proverbial dead horse but having an accurate gauge for the coolant helps.

Also, have you modified your s/c fan or are you using the one TRD/Kazuma provided? If you're getting your coolant to rise significantly under pretty normal summer temps, it doesn't sound like your cooling system is fxning up to snuff.

Interesting stuff and hope you get it sorted out before you find the weak link ...like ole' #6

He has changed the blade and he has a one-off intercooler.

New radiator, non-ringed fan. The cooling system was def. having problems before I made those changes. The temps would start to rise sitting in traffic with the AC on, now it doesn't.

Sounds like high-end lean then if I had to guess. I bet when you're near your max boost your egt's are north of 1400-deg F and that's going to really overwhelm your cooling system. But again, just a guess...

I should have checked your ROW thread too! Nice truck
