"Other markets take things even further. A winch can be fitted behind the front bumper."

Um, can we just buy that?

If they sold those here at about $45-60k (I know I am unrealistic) they wouldn't be able to keep them in stock...maybe im being optimistic....

Based on Austrialian MSRP of the Sahara Trim (equal to US) compared to the basic GX model, dropping the GX a little more for gas engine (vs diesel) a GX in the US should list at about 52K. I'm in at that price..... Everyone join me in calling or emailing Toyota Corporate to beg for an expanded US Landcruiser range. If GM can sell suburbans from 48 to 93K, why can't Toyota!

It ain't gonna happen. Various members here have spoken personally with the Toyota mucky mucks and they ain't gonna do it. I myself would at least like option of custom ordering decontented LC, but I don't think that's in the cards either...

I'm pretty sure Toyota has done enough market analysis and determined that the number of stripped down LCs sold per year would be smaller than you think and those that do get sold would likely cannibalize a portion of the higher end LCs and would also affect their resale value. Both the additional number of LCs at a lower profit margin plus the lower resale value due to used market sales moving to the new market would decrease what Toyota could charge for the new LCs.

If you want a stripped down LC in the US, you buy a 4Runner (which is based on the Prado/GX).

My dad drives a GX V8 imported from Egypt and it has some cool factory options. Like extra cooling for the engine and the cabin, a second spare tire on a swing mount and also a larger fuel tank. It even came with off road tires out of the factory. These are nice options for off roading. Unfortunately it is only used for towing trailers. Compared to our other luxurious V8 from Europe the drivetrain and engines are exactly the same. Another nice feature is that the 200 from Egypt doesn't have a speed limit. So the maximum speed is over 250km/h. On the other hand the interior is very standard with cloth seats and a CD/cassette radio. So there are also disadvantages on a off road 200.

That's crazy - I can't imagine driving 250km/h in a Land Cruiser. I find I get a very slight wander on the highway with stock suspension and enough float over highway imperfections that I would be afraid of losing control over 160km/h or so.

I figure it'd eat into 4runner sales as well. One can dream anyways or hope we are all still around in 2033...

The only thing I hate is the built-in navigation screen that CANNOT be replaced due to so many vehicle systems relying on it for functionality.

I leave my 2008 screen OFF 99% of the time, so it just pops on when I need to adjust something.

Would love the ability to add an after market head unit. Other than that...there is nothing bad about the extra stuff when you buy used for a decent price.

That article was simply painful to read! I love my 200 (and my 100 for that matter), but I wish so badly that we could get a more utilitarian version here in the US. A diesel with a stick shift! Bring it on! Thanks for sharing that link. An interesting but depressing read!
