I am planning to haul my motorcycle and/or dirtbike on occasion, and will load via ramp at the tailgate. I don’t suspect this is too much weight (bike weighs ~500 lbs/2 wheels), but curious as to what these tailgates can handle.

If anyone recommends/has ideas on reinforcing the tailgate, I’m all ears!

Why not completely lower the tailgate and fix your ramps directly to the bed?
In the absence of more confidence in the tailgate or reinforcing it (which is likely overcomplicating a simple situation) this is exactly what I will do.

Thank you for talking sense into me.

The swb tailgate appears to be quite a bit more substantial with its boxed/double wall construction. This is good news for the chains, though - they should handle the same weight on either truck, I suppose.

I stand on my SWB 45 tailgate when I slide a 200 lb tub of Keylix protein in the bed onto it, just over the hinge edge. so we're talking something in the vicinity of 350lbs (yeah, I'm cheating on one end of the math here😄). No issues so far with the tailgate, the chains, or the chain connections at the tub (the bed itself can flex in that area, KTIM). But my tailgate does have a little inside contour to it, a 200lb tub starting at the cab side of the bed has a bit of momentum when it slides to the tailgate side of the bed unobstructed on a 9-10% grade, that conservation of momentum thingy. Whoops.

I haven't installed it yet but I had a panel bent to fit over and wrap the top. It makes the tailgate a double panel and will stop anything rolling from dinging the back. I already installed one on my 79 series tailgate on my swb 45. I'll snap a picture of the two for you later today when I'm at the shop
