Wow, sorry to hear that. On the plus side, it will be sweet to have an 80 buggy. BTW, if you make it a buggy and no longer have any use for that ARB, I'd gladly relieve you of it.

My offer still stands from #2 post. Also, I could use a RH Windshield wiper arm. Congrats on driving it off the lot! That's pretty awesome.

I agree he screwed up bad.
There is no excuse for what he did.
He should have to pay.

So........lets let him pay! Whats so hard about that. Sheeeesh.

and on another note - if you are going to sawzaw the roof - what condition are your seats in?

if your seats are not too cracked, worn, etc...... would you consider trading out for my 1996 seats (leather in bad shape but all the power works..... you are going to put vinyl seatcovers on yours anyway - right?)

I would drive over to Wilmington from Greenville SC

also - I need a grab bar

This is amazing; but, uhhh, what do you do when it rains?

FWIW: I saw a few flipped LC's in Iraq; they were survivable
and could drive away; forget it if you were driving a LandRover
or Gelandewagon; they folded like a deck of cards.

Nice rig.

Nice ressurection of the 80.

Any details on what became of the criminals?

x2...I'm sure you'd prefer to put it all behind you but it is always a bummer not to know the "rest of the story" :D

As for the rig, that looks awesome and like a WHOLE lot of fun :)

Something about an open air buggy with leather seating...

It looks great!

civil suit will fly no doubt. my lawyer reminds me though : "a judgment does not mean sh#t if they dont have anything". Hopefully the folks have jobs or at least some equity in the house!!

Anyone have any recomendations how to get the rig back from the insurance company? I have heard to ask for a owner retained title?

Hope they dont kill me too bad.
I'm not an attorney but if a you have a judgment in your favor even though they might have nothing EVERYONE has an automobile and you can't buy or lease a new one without paying off the judgment first or any house or big purchase of any kind with a judgment in your credit file. It might take you a while but you should get paid. Hopefully the parents have assets. I like the new look of your 80!

Good Luck

Canadian view point....

its very interesting reading this. Being a Canadian I was drawn to a fact that seem to have gone unnoticed here...it actually really suprised me....

"I had my Springfeild 40cal in my drawer system in the back. They had it in the front seat and loaded"

THEY HAD A GUN.....YOUR GUN... THE ONE THAT YOU LEFT FOR ANYONE TO TAKE.......

I understand the whole gun issue, and I dont want to start a debate here, but how bad would you feel if they killed themselves while playing with a gun, or killed someone else...

Why would you leave a gun in the car???? Ok mabey its a Canadian thing, we just dont have guns up here, and if so, they have to be in the house locked away, not just in the car.

I just thought that was interesting as we all talk about how the kids are at fault, but leaving the keys and a gun in the car..I think you would be in trouble up here for that.

Sorry to hear about the wreck, I think you should be allowed to beat the **** out of them and they have to buy you a new truck.

I hate punks too. we have them up here rich kids mostly that daddy bails out...we should bring back a good public caning.

Scott.

When I read the first of the thread, I would have offered roll repair info. I can rebuild a rollover, and have done it. But then I saw the pics. I can do many things, but that is not one of them! I am sorry for your loss.
I heard you when you were a bit sorry for the thief. I feel for him too. But I realize that there is a difference. When a person is fleeing through the city, and rolls a truck as hard as he did to yours, he has no regard for human life.
A person who views a family in a Honda as nothing more than an obstacle is nothing more than a sociopath. He has no regard for human life. His desire for your truck is higher than his regard for the lives of his neighbors. They are only things to be disposed of if they get in his way. This is wrong.
Such a man needs to be locked away from your family and mine. We may feel for him, but we cannot allow him to be able to be near to us. We have to put him away. It is sad but true.
The family in the Honda may be nothing more than normal, but they deserve to live out the simple life that they are given. They deserve not to be cut down by a by an amoral criminal. The rest of us should not defend the man who threatens to kill them by his stupid behavior.

I know that these guys found your keys...but I was wondering, are 80s like other earlier Toyotas that only have a few key sets?

OK,

Here goes;

Are you, a Canadian, saying that:

1) Americans should not own guns?
2) That Americans are not allowed to protect themselves and their
families?
3) That Americans should be just like Canadians?
4) That Americans should go unarmed in order that some
punk can car-jack them, break into their homes or vehicles?

5) Are you saying that the American Constitution should be re-written?

6) Are you saying that a criminal, who breaks into someone's vehicle
to steal property, should not be tempted to steal someone's
legally owned firearm? And if so tempted, that he should be excused for taking it, as it should not have been there (locked up) in the first place?

7) Are you saying that a criminal who does break into someone's vehicle, and then illegally loads a firearm that does not belong to him, and then handles that loaded firearm while drunk;
are you saying that it is not that criminals fault that he did all those
criminal actions??

I think what you are saying is that if there was not a nice looking
vehicle on the street, the criminal would not have been enticed
to break into it, and if there was not an Ipod in sight, he
would never have taken it, and if there was not a legally owned
firearm, then the criminal would not have been enticed to load it
and play with it while drunk.

I think what you are saying is that it is the victims fault that all this happened, and if we just could understand the criminal a bit better
that we could forgive him for his crimes, and if we were just a bit
smarter, the crime never would have happened in the first place.

I also think what you are saying is that if no one was armed that
there would be less crime.

Uhh, tell that to the dead wife and two daughters of a physician in
?New Hampshire who were burned to death by two escaped convicts
who broke into their home, forced the wife at gunpoint to drive
to the bank, then tied them up in their own home and burned them and the house to ashes.

I prefer to live in America, and yes, we have bigger balls than
most people in most other countries in the world.

Don't get me started.

Holy s***. Are you serious?

This the the biggest pile of crap I have read in a while.

WHAT?????:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

Read it again...

where did i say any of those things... it took you 4 lines to get to the constitution... slow down there gun guy....every line you have written starts with... "i think you ment this...or what your really saying is this..."

I believe i said that i understsood the gun issues..

all i said was that it went unnoticed that they got a gun from a car.

we have hand guns here in Canada, and we are alowed to own them... I never said anything that you have pointed out..learn to read.

People can own all the guns they want. What suprised me was that it was in the car for any young punk to get hold of..... thats all i pointed out.... get over your insecurites about guns. there has to be some responsibilites?

and by the way... responsiable gun ownership has NOTHING to do with how big your balls are....grow up.

Quick reply to dumaduke;

It was grossly and immediately apparent from your LARGE RED LETTERS that you
felt it was a big deal that an AMERICAN had a gun in his car. You were obviously making
a statement, as I am now.

In AMERICA is it LEGAL to have a gun in your car in most states, as long as it is
not loaded; meaning, the gun and the magazine are not together.

I am not "gun guy", I am actually a physician who has seen many patients
who were shot by criminals, and criminals who shot other criminals.

I also have absolutely no insecurities over guns ownership.

It is your own words that betray your deep feelings about guns and gun ownership.

I have also seen a heck of a lot of people who were stabbed, beaten with sticks, rocks,
thrown off bridges, beaten to death with fists, etc, etc, etc; ie: not gun crimes.

I do not blame the gun or the law abiding gun owner; I blame the criminal who caused
the mayhem. Bad people do bad things, whether it is with a gun, a knife, or a club.

This is more for chat, so I will not write anymore about this topic in this tech forum.

The moderators might want to move this portion to chat if it is warranted.
