Damn man, so sorry to hear that :(

The 19y/o kid will be spending time in prison, but the other 2...they may get off without a satisfying punishment, which sucks. Good luck, and I hope you get everything you go after.

K--

sorry to here for that certainly sucks. I'd love to see it at ure after a full resurection and lots o sawzall action:). I know its a small consolation but at least you have the guilty party at hand. my taco got swiped on 40 and im gettin the shaft on that one, so i know the feeling. Hope all turns out well and if your not gonna keep the arb drop me a pm; ill be in rdu next week and tryin to work my way to the beach soon, and what better excuse for a trip to wilmington.

Just my little slightly expereinced opinion,
First off Do not try to add all the mods that you have done to the vehicle with your insurance company, this will only increase the salvage value. also renting a ferrari soun ds like fun but if the kids parents are not collectible you will end up footing the bill. Be honest with the insurance folks, let them know of what options there are (ie locking diffs) and make them come up with comparable ones to use when they come up with the value on the truck. If you are straight up and honest and have patience with the insurance people you will have better results.
Then again my cruiser was paid for by my salary from a large insurance company so what the hell do I know.
Dave

There are 2 80s for sale in your(our) area....one is $21K and the other 18.9...

You need a starting point, right?

I followed Dave's advice and came out golden, buy back should only be about 2k..

YIKES!!!

Very sorry to hear about it.

Hope you come out OK and that you can leave this ugly incident behind you.

Good luck!

It would have been hard not to have wanted to murder all three of the kids and have tortured their parents. Do you have any recourse on the parents?

If one of the perps is indeed 17yrs old, his parent's asses are on the line. The other will be locked up in two shakes. If you're lucky, the 17year old was the one driving. Chances of the older kid having more assets than the 17year old's parents are pretty slim, given his good nature and all

News like this always pisses me off. It keeps reminding me that human nature isn't always a shiny path through a rosey f*** garden. There are bad people in the shadows, for them I pack a S&W Snubber. My home recordingg studio got burglarized earlier this year. Bastards are lucky that I wasn't home, given that in Georgia they just passed a citizen's shoot first, ask questions later law.

Hope this turns out positive for you.

WOW Sorry that the pricks lived.

The first thing you need to do is get your cruiser home you are the owner and still hold the title. You will have more options and a better chance if you have it.

Damn,

At first I thought this was a "feel good" story, but the perps did live. Oh well, maybe next crash.

Arb???????????

do you want to part with the arb

One can only hope that 15 years from now when those fxxxs have worked for 5 years to buy the car of their dreams that some crack head steals it and smashes the s*** out of it.

Update

Insurance guy did the truck today. He added up all the extra gear and gave me 9400 for the total and 1000 to keep the truck. The frame, wheels and engine are cool, so I think I am OK. I am going to buggy out the 80.

I will send some hot sawsall action pics.

Is it legal to drive without a windshield?

Freak!
That sucks.
I am so sorry.

This is the exact same reason why I don't like girl friend to leave her keys in my glove box. My BJ60 was already stolen, don't need my 80 stolen too.

Try get good money for your truck, and then do a cheap buy back.
Looks like you can move your, engine, ARB, lift, tires etc over to a new one.
Then you could sell you locked axels and other stuff off.

You could even come out ahead minus the PITA!

Hope this all works out for you.

Cheers,
Nick

I should mention, that the 19 year old is likely to spend the next 10 years or more in prison. One bad night and the rest of his life is ruined.
10 years in jail, plus criminal record.
It's not like he murdered anyone.

He screwed up. He screwed big time.
It probably started break-in in looking for money or stuff to sell,
That turned into a car theft.
Then a car chace and an accident.
Things got big real fast.

19 years old. He hardly knows what he is doing.
I am not saying he should be let off scott free.
He should have to pay.
He should have to pay back what he wrecked in full.
I just think there are better forms of punishment rather than prison.

What about those camps out in deserts working on a farm.
Leaning the meaning of hard work and community, and helping others.
A couple years of that and he would probably be really changed.
I doubt he would leave as the same person he started as.

If he is remorseful, it would be nice to try an get amore lenient sentence for him.
Maybe even stop in while in prison and check on him.
I am sure he will be taken back by your good will.
I know it would be hard to do. I would be pissed too.
I have been there, someone stole my BJ60 6 months ago (never caught them).

But how many of us has not screwed up before (I doubt any of us did something this big).
I am sure we all did some very stupid stuff in our late teens.
Maybe nothing like this, but I am sure some of the stuff we did could of been bad.
We have all made royal big mistakes.
If he is remorseful, he might really appreciate some grace.
He could very well learn more out of that, than the next 10 years in prison.

Just a thought.

Cheers,
Nick

I don't mean to be unkind, but I really hope you don't make a mistake one day.
Stuff happens. Some we can control, and some we can't.

I agree he screwed up bad.
There is no excuse for what he did.
He should have to pay.
But rapists and murders will get the same as him.
At 19 he can still be corrected.
I just thought maybe showing a bit of grace to him might be a better way to go. I guess it really does not matter what I think.

I am sorry this happened to you, and I do hope it all works out for you.
I am excited to see pics of you build.

Cheers,
Nick

$9400 seems a little light. Final offer? Any room to negotiate? I wonder if you started adding all the mods in if it really would affect the salvage buy-back price as much as it would increase the total value. You might have a fellow mudder in the insurance biz run the numbers for you.

I did alot of stupid stuff when I was 19 but this is way stupid. I mean he was 19, if you don't have enough sense at 19 to not steal a car there isn't much hope for you later on. At 19 you should be doing stupid stuff like throwing oranges at cars, or doing keg stands, not stealing cars.
