For now I am going to use an old set of swampers I have. Need to get two other sets of tires for other projects before I invest in another set for the trail rig. Not the best tire but they will work well for the limited use the truck will actually get.

Found some 3/4 solid round cord that I am going to use for anti coning. Will try to determine the crush factor before committing to it. If it seems too flexible then I will find some rings to tack on.

Wheels are back from powder coating.
Waiting for the angled short valve stems to arrive. Then just need to find a day to try to mount the tires on the wheels.

They look very cool and the tip of the hub cap is almost flush with the front of the rim. May need to remove them before hitting the rocks but otherwise should be a nice old school look.

Might need some spacers but we shall see. Narrow wheels may put the tires too far in. Who sells a good spacer?

Mini tuck or 4runner ifs hubs wheel mounting flanges are offset more than 4x or 6x series hubs are. And all share the same size Spindle. I think 80 series Spindles and hubs are larger? I haven’t owned an 80 so not sure, I don’t think it would work.

Yep, 80s hubs are different, which was why I questioned it, wondering if you knew something I didn't. I'd forgotten the OP was modding wheels for a 40.

I was curious so I did some reading and a rear 80 hub might fit onto the rear of a full float 60 or 70 series. Also giving more offset about 2.5 inches. That would bring my wheels on my 60 out flush with the fender. I’m going to keep my eye out for set and try it out. Out of curiosity are 80 series front hubs similar to the rear?

Finished mounting the tires this evening. So much for youtube and getting the tires to pop on the wheels... Local tire shop guy helped me get the wheel in the tires and I took it from there.

Beyond psyched seeing the hub caps on my truck. Well worth the headaches getting to this point.
Pics suck but they give an idea.

I will see if they hit and or need to be spaced out. Otherwise I am pretty pleased with the tall skinny look with the oem wheel and caps.

Lots of time and $ to get this done but sure beats the old trail ready wheels I used to have.

Couldn’t agree more.
It’s on the add list but might go on hold cause I happened upon another cruiser I couldn’t pass up. Going to focus on that one and see what it costs to get fine tuned. Then back to this one. Fits in garage with tires and present too so it’s right at home.
The factory tops and bows are crazy pricey so it a matter of time.
