Thanks beejay, that's the way I'm going to go. My cd player bit the dust, so this is my next shot.

No probs, good luck with it- which one are you going to go for?
post up some results here when you get them.
And just because mine had a problem I'll advise you to check yours- the very end plastic cap thing on the plug was too large on mine (it would get stuck in the end of the ciggy plug hole- push the connector thing out too far and short out the fuse) I ended up having to shave a bit of it off and just fiddle with it all a bit- works fine now.

And antFJ, sorry to jump in on your thread- just thought it wasn't too much of a thread drift because this is IMO another way of doing it with a stock (or other) radio- thanks for posting it up.

If it were me, I'd pull the stock radio apart, find the audio path at a point just before the audio amplifier, bring a shielded audio cable out of the case to a switch.. The switch would switch between the internal audio and an external input for the player of choice.. Then the cable would return to the stock radio just before the amp.. That way I'd have all stock looks and functionality with the option of a high tech modern player that will play at best quality available and not be prone to interference.. No need for expensive modulators and associated clutter..

since my 40 is a 1969, I dont have a speaker, radio hole or any of the problems assoicated with the 78. i am just going to sing as I drive my fj40. Saves time and at least $18.00. how much cheaper can you get.

holy thread revival - sort of. well i'll give an update - that ipod harmon/kardon thing worked out great for the week i had it in my s-10... of course i parked my truck on campus in broad day light for 30 min with my passenger window open and sure enough they ripped my head unit out and broke the ipod harmon/kardon joystick when they tried to rip it off.

well i went to get a new radio and its pretty cool.. most come with the ipod direct hookup as it is.. i got an Alpline one that has a USB and/or ipod hookup - its all built in - i didn't even know they made head units like this...

when i get my 40 up and running I'll probably just get the block off plate and get a console that has speakers and a place for a head unit. problem solved.
