When adding the Toyota CB, cassette or 8-track player this spade connector connects to those units. When the external unit it activated the radio turns off and the unit is ready for use.

I believe the blue wire and connector coming out the harness is power

That connector is correct for the "Radio" connector for 1973-1977 FJ40's and it is connected to the Wiper fuse circuit for those same years.
The Radio got it's own fuse in 1978.

Why do you think they used that style connector?

Toyota probably had a surplus of the slotted connector, and since it will fit the male connector on the expansion harness for a tape deck they used it. Or the woman assembling the harness simply grabbed the wrong connector. Interestingly I have seen mutiple harnesses that have a female bullet connector installed there instead of the white connector.
I have the non slotted version of that connector if it bugs you and you want to swap it out. Part # F1P6.3W or you can install a latching 1 pin Part #FLF1P6.3W
