tried to do some research but most stuff is old; has anyone been running a stock bumper with a winch behind it? if so how has the mount been holding up and what was used. thanks

I believe there have been a couple members who have installed a receiver hitch behind their front bumper and fabricated a winch plate to fit that. The biggest problem they ran into is finding the room to mount the winch behind the bumper so most go the receiver hitch route and have the winch on the exterior. An advantage to the receiver hitch is it will be removable so you can put it in the rear of the truck to winch backwards if you have another receiver back there.

looking to try to do something like this one

yup I did the reading and thats what I wanted to specifically ask that if they were to do it again would they scrap it etc. The size fitting has gotten better with winch being smaller etc and connections etc

I'm interested in this too. I would like a winch for piece of mind when out on trails, but the $1,000 price tag for a bumper to hold it has been holding me back. I'm debating just getting a good comealong like the Power Puller for the time being.

Similar situation. Anyone have information/suggestions on using a come-along/hand winch for such a heavy vehicle?
Hi lift jack winch kit?

Not to "jack" the thread or anything.

I think that's likely the nicest solution I've seen on here, but it seems to be a one-off. I have to imagine there are a lot of people that would be interested in a nice integrated winch plate like that. Does anyone know if they would be willing to produce additional ones?

i reached out to the guy Jaon; will report back what he says and how much. Mach5 do you have any other photos of with winch in the tray etc. how is fitting size and actually air flow for radiator thanks

I was looking to see if I could mount one of the universal winch plates underneath the front frame rails using the existing recovery points as the primary anchors, but I'm not sure about notching around the coolant line that comes under and beside the driver side frame rail. Interested to hear what comes of this.

I'd be very interested in a bolt-on solution too. The mount in the FAQ thread is a weld-up and I don't have a welder. I've been hoping Jaon in the custom mount thread above would respond to the production questions in his thread. I'd love to have one of the new smaller winches mounted up front.

Mine is not near as clean as either of the previously mentioned examples, nor am I a professional fabricator with tons of experience. I made a cardboard template for the bottom plate initially, then fitted everything. It attaches at the bottom recovery points and extends back almost three inches along the bottom of the frame. Then in the front of the frame horns. Mine was built as a means of working with what I had and tight budget. I purchased the 3/8 steel as a scrap piece from a huge steel supplier here in el paso it is ridiculously hard, I ate through 5 different high quality drill bits trying to precisely locate holes for mounting. Ultimately I just used my plasma cutter and burned through all mounting holes so it is a little rough and not precise but provides some adjustability.

Yes that is a Warn m15000 lbs winch stuffed in there.......

I tried for 6 months given my current location to do some type of swap/trade to a more practical size/weight rated winch for the application. So I just went with what I had.

The original bumper cover is held on by two screws now combined with resistance from the winch mount itself.

Its heavy as sh!t but does as intended.

It is "high" so to speak, I think. But, your paying him for a. his time, b. consumables on say welder/plasma/cutt off wheel..... But yes there's definitely a profit margin there. I think when I originally purchased this piece of steel it was $150. For a 4x5' piece. Realistically probably maybe $100. In this if not including labor.

i didn't think it was to high (still half the cost of the cheapest ARB bumper) put the problem is shipping; if its another 100 to 200 bucks then no its probably to much. still working on it. will post when I get more info

I happen to know somewhere you can get the complete bumper for $200 more or a weld together for the same. :)
