Took the 60 out on Sunday for a quick trip to big fork. The 4.88s, front locker & new carb made it feel like a new truck. Got a couple things to work out but overall happy w the truck. Going to attempt the clutch install this weekend. Wish me luck.

make sure you have a line-up tool and use it, and make sure you install the clutch disk with the correct side facing the flywheel (the clutch disk should be marked) Consider getting the flywheel surfaced if mared or imperfections noted.
The first pointer is don't drop it in your head!

not very far, lol. thanks for checking. my buddy ordered a transmission jack, was supposed to arrive last friday but never showed up. We postponed until this coming weekend, hopefully sunday if the jack arrives before.
also forgot to tell you i found the next size up d-ring bracket @ lovely Harbor Freight.

Go to Roger's house and put that thing on the lift to change the clutch . Easier than laying on your back .
He had time schedule on the lift 3 months ago, right after we did Andy's 5 speed.

my 60 friends....check out this thread over in the main forum.... Seems to have taken a well thought out approach over time and appears to be a great combination. I'm thinking about going to GM auto transmission....tired of the clutch game (maybe thats part of getting older).

on a FJ60...swapping out the fj60 rear axle for a full floater from a FJ80 (I'm talking about from hub to hub..the entire assembly)? I know its not exactly a bolt in...but my friend could do the welding & fab work. Just contemplating the swap.... not really looking to go with the OEM electric locker but would probably go ARB.
How big a deal to get the emergencey brake setup off the 80 to work on the 60 (I presume not that painful)?
Other than that I understand it to be a game of basically stripping the FJ80 spring hardware welding on new spring perches on the 80axle to line up with the 60 springs..etc, understand the pinon angle biz too. I understand I will have to setup new third ...hopefully the donor FJ80 third would be a good start...
Anyway...what pain is involved?

@robustbambi has one under his 62, but the donor truck it came from was a 60 that had it swapped under it, so while he had to clean it up, I think his was a fairly bolt on affair. But overall I think you pretty much have the jist. Strip axle, set pinion angle and weld on New perches, add shock mounts and go. Your current third should drop right in. The 9.5" non-elocked thirds went pretty much unchanged for years I believe. I know they will swap from a SF 80 to a FF 80 with no issues, so guessing from 60 to 80 would be similar (could be wrong there as I have zero experience with a 60). Only thing you have to do is add spacers up front to match the track width of the 80 rear. I think it is right around 3" wider so you'd need 1.5" spacers to make it work.
E-brake, just make sure you get the cable from donor rig. It would be easiest to put it in the floor with the lever. Don't the 60s have the dash handles? If so and you want to keep it then that might take some fiddling.

If you going to 80 axle already set up for coils why not link the 60 and use the coils , truck will ride a lot better.

I follow the logic but not really wanting to take that on.... I agree the 60 like mine is not the best riding thing around.
So as things typically go, the lovely domino affect hit me today. Front brakes on the 60 been whining so I took a look. Pads weren't too bad, roughly 50% wear but I bought lifetime so took them back for brand new ones. While I was forcing the Pistons back in I saw brake fluid shoot out the caliper body. 
I believe the rubber sealing washer that seals the two halves of the caliper together failed. Next I pulled everything apart, cleaned and found a rebuild kit @ Oreillys for $8/ea. Only prob is it only includes the piston boots and clamp rings! Doh!!!
