So the oil is coming out of the correct place and there is no oil leaking on the floor when the chainsaw is not in use. I assume this is a venting problem?
My original oil cap cracked in the middle (sticking a screwdriver in the slot to open it) so I replaced it with a new one - might not be original Stihl - but it does seem to fit. The other place is the little silver circle with the hole in it. I believe this is the vent.
Any way I can figure out which (or something else) might be the cause of this? I took the bar and chain off and started it up, the bar oil just pours out and eventually runs down around the sprocket area and turns black and I get some smoke.
Thanks for any help.
