We ran into a few trees in the road.

Finally found a tree back in Dec. I did 3 weekend days back to back. But we managed to find something in the rain.

Just been driving Steve and enjoy it.

Went into work to do some stuff on Saturday. Pulled the CVT Mt. Hood and did an OEM rack delete.

Saudi Spec Steve!

Would be cool to have the 1HDFTE and 5 speed to match!

Rack delete is to get the Tent mounted lower and better to the roof.

I’m going to be running an ARB Baserack mounting kit and will use 1 x 3 10 series extrusions to cross the span and mount the tent to it.

It should result in a really low profile set-up that will be able to also run the base rack wind deflector and I think ARB slimline light bar.

Would be very low profile as the tent would mount at the height that the Baserack platform does.

Waiting on extrusions so will hopefully update in the next week.

PSA:

Do your heater tees.

Pro tips:

Anti fatigue mats on top of the engine and core support. Full on plank on top.

Worth investing in the right tools. Longer needle nose pliers both straight and bent will help. I tried to use one of the guys at work cable hose spring clamp pliers and I struggled to get it figured out.

I replaced with all OEM hose and tees. The last ones lasted 240K so these should me having to do it again.

Note sure if you already have the ARB base or not but I just installed one of these on my 100 series and am in Snohomish of you need any measurements or want to take a look at mounting etc.

Was able to get a few things ticked off the list today.

I did update the rear backup lights with brighter LED’s

AUXITO 7440 7443 LED Bulb for Reverse Lights, 102-SMD https://a.co/d/cqUzXa7

Also did the rear brake light bulbs. These have an integrated flash function. They flashes 3 times and then hold constant. I figure give the Tesla or person quasi driving a chance to see me brake and a fraction of a second could be the difference between a collision or not.

My 7 year old camera operator. 😂

With the group 49 AGM and fridge on all the time I wanted to make sure I’m not slowly killing the battery by undercharging it.

I swapped out the 7.5amp Alt-S fuse for one of these. Small filling to the sides of the prime was needed to make it “fit”. Over all a very easy job.

GM Genuine Parts 12135037 Multi-Function Diode https://a.co/d/8kAsXei

Voltage results at the terminals:

Before:

Started rose to 13.46-13.49
Then held at 13.36-13.39

After:

Started rose to 14.9-15.00
Then held at 14.36-14.39

Was able to finally pull the head dash and head unit to add a Bluetooth module Crux BTS-TY1

Pretty stoked about this I really haven’t used the stereo because I don’t know anyone that can burn a CD anymore. I have been joking about loading up a disc or CD holder with the top albums from 1998. And letting people pick tunes when they get in the car.

Tent back on.

Pretty excited about how low I was able to mount this.

I used an ARB Base Rack mounting kit 17913010 and 2x extrusions (3 x 1) https://a.co/d/3NLOMfN

I need to tie in the ARB Bass Rack wind deflector into the tent.

The whole rack is pretty much bolted to the tent and then drops onto the roof mounts with 6 bolts.

Added 2x 100w panels to the top of the tent. Will tie them into the solar charge controller.

Cleaned the top of the tent and panel. First was to clean with simple green until rag was clean. Then a wax remover until rag was clean. I used an adhesion promoter on both surfaces. Then used 3M VHB in 2inch wide around the perimeter and across the middle.

After applying I sealed the surface over the edge with black aluminum tape to ensure the edge doesn’t lift in the wind.

Cut the extrusion down to fit inside the ARB Base Rack mounting bracket.

I did need to space the front mount up with 4 stacked M8 washers in order to lift the front bar so that it doesn’t have interference with the roofline.

Drilled the extrusion and hard mounted to the ARB Base Rack mounting bracket.

Built a bracket to mount the Victron Smart Solar MPPT 100/20

I’m not planning on running a dual battery. If I was I think the move is a redarc BCDC charger.

I set this up to be close to the battery. 200w of solar is on top of the RTT and I’ll run the wires down the A -Pillar and into the engine compartment. Working on figuring out if I can have an add in port to add the 200w foldable panel. In order to max input in the cloudy PNW.

Waiting on the powder coater to finish for the mount to get some of this wrapped up.

Worked to get all the wires run and see if the charger can handle both the panels on the RTT and also the foldable solar panel.

Late in the day sun but definitely more than I would be able to pull from just the fridge. Wondering what that would look like in the Seattle overcast.

Thanks! I'm pretty excited about how it turned out.

It might be able to go a little lower with different cross bars. I'm pretty happy with how low it is now. It would give more clearance between the roof and cross bars. Due to having to lift the front mounts for clearance might be able to drop the front angle of the tent down.

As it currently sits it is really close to the tilt function of the sunroof when it is open. If i cut down the front mounting bolts I should have more clearance.

This profile is what I'm thinking about going to 3075 - https://8020.net/3075.html. If I do I would potentially be able to use the middle mounting point as well.

Quick trip this last weekend to the Olympics.

Ferry spotting on the way over.

Met up with @Bullzi over the weekend and had a great time exploring a

He just finished converting his FJ60 from a 60 leaf sprung front axle to a 80 series coil spring axle. So it was great to put some miles on some dirt roads to shake down the set-up.

We camped in an amazing spot with a sand beach steps away from the campsite.

Been a busy month or so. Some tech first.

Steve got a little service work prior to a long drive.

New 150 amp Sequoia alt. This was an easy bolt in process to get more reliable power. Denso reman was sourced.

I also used a plug and play solution to the 3 wire (early) to 4 wire (later) alternator. By going with a solution that @BnvS has come up with.

This was an easy button as I didn’t need to source terminals and plugs to create my own. It is completely reversible should anyone want to go back to an 80/90 amp in the future. The wire harness is also slightly lengthened which means the alt can move out further in order to disconnect the plug.

Hardest part was getting the original alt plug removed from the old alternator.

Process looked like this pretty much:

1. Disconnect the battery cables.
2. Remove skid plate
3. Remove fender liner on PS.
4. Reach in behind the Alt and unplug the connector. (This is easier to do when the alternator is bolted in)
5. Unbolt alternator
6. Loosen drive belt
7. Wiggle alt forward and down below radiator.

Also added a new diff support and front flanges to help tame the clunk from P-R.

Long drive from Seattle to LA.

Yummy 🤤

Other than the fuel bill. No issues with the truck driving down and towing the trailer. Wished we had time to just take it slow but traveling with a boy and 2 pets made it more of a mad dash.

Finding fun spots to drive in the Santa Monica mountains. Still have lots more exploring to do hoping to find some hidden spots for quick overnight camping but they have most stuff closed off really well at first glance.

Nook,

Did you try adding a third extrusion in the middle location or is there not enough clearance?

I have been running just 2x. You might be able to fit a third one if you use this profile. It might be too close to the arc of the roofline. But I have not measure to see.

If I were to do it again I would use this profile and not space out the mounting feet on the front with washers to add height for additional extrusion clearance on the roofline.

Order two for front and back. Then you can measure to see if you have clearance for the middle third.

All that said. It has been incredibly solid and stable with the 2 extrusion bars.

Awesome, thanks for the reply. I cant decide if i want to run the extrusions below the mounts like you have them (I love the low profile) or build my own rack out of the 1"x3" extrusions and the quarter-round pieces on the perimeter and mount it on top of the Base kit rails. Decisions....

Like you said, I'll probably order two and lay one on top of the middle mount, measure and see if i can squeeze the 3/4" extrusion under and go from there.
