I am looking at upgrading my current aftermarket stereo, and would like a back up camera with it, what is everyone running and what do you like? Thanks

Those Pioneer AVIC series sounds like a solid option. I’ve been eyeing those for a bit, but I have other repairs to attend before I get to the sound system.

Yes on Pioneer. I've been using 4100NEX and has worked well. Detachable face too. Wired for carplay/android. Might be good deals on the 4100 and 4200 models (both wired to smartphone) as the 4400 (wireless) is now out.

Edit: I'm using the pioneer backup camera with it too and works well. I believe it'll take a second camera. The 4000 series is right in the mid-upper level of their products but seemed to hit the highpoints of features I wanted.

Whatever you do, make sure it has a volume KNOB.

I bought a Pioneer unit that is otherwise good, but I wanted the slightly bigger screen. Bigger screen means buttons for volume and that sucks.

pioneer 4100nex will work (somewhat) with this Sony rotary commmander - sony rotary commander rm-x4s. Can be found on ebay. I've got one mounted on the steering column and makes it easy to control without looking at screen and hands slightly off the steering wheel. It's not as good as steering wheel controls but works well enough. Only the volume up/down and tracks (or radio station) up/down are recognized, but that gets a lot of the controls and not having to press the mechanical buttons on the headunit.

Otherwise it's touch screen which is easy enough and not sacrificing much screen for large dials.

Got any pictures of that UFO on your steering wheel?

If you can get one with a screen that adjusts the tilt you might find it helps a lot with glare.
apple carplay or android auto... can be really nice to have, and if you do any wheeling two camera inputs makes it easier for you to see over hills when you come up a tall incline.

I also think a small volume knob is nice to have.

I am a fan of Alpine myself. They have several options that support back up cameras. Been running that brand in various forms for over 20 years now. Had my last Alpine head unit for 12 years with 0 issues, only reason it's gone is I sold the truck it was in. Skip the Kenwood stuff, one came in the truck I just bought and it does not play nice with my I pod, the touch screen interface is clunky too. Can't speak to Pioneer as I've never owned one.

Alpine makes pretty good stuff. Everything I have ever used had good quality. The issue then is the price tag.

Highly recommend the 4200 NEX, which had all the features I needed for less. Alpine double DIN's with Carplay do not have Bluetooth.

Not sure that is correct as my Alpine does.

sony xav-ax1000 is hands down the best double din I have ever had. and x2 on the volume knob! a must for me.

I like that Sony model. Until I got the Pioneer 4100 I always had sony - SOny didn't support Carplay at the time. When my pioneer goes I'll consider the Sony again.

I'll get a photo loaded or maybe a video.

Pioneer also makes some steering wheel control thingies. I already had the sony remote control stick and turned out worked on the Pioneer.
