Does anyone know where to find a fj40 style steel with with hub caps for a 1994 land cruiser? I would just put the same hubcap from the rear wheels on all four wheels.

Thanks, I emailed him and was told the 40 wheel doesn’t fit the 80.

I’m thinking to take the fjcruiser steel and buying the clips for the 40 series kits and making a wheel.

If u get 16" then they may fit...

Thanks man!!! This is awesome news!

I tried going to Flex in Japan and using google translated to see if they sold parts but could not find anything.

If you look at those 80’s they sell with the retro 60 front clip, they have steel with hub caps.

They are to narrow or the offset is not great enough.

If the offset isn’t great enough that can be solved with spacers. The width has nothing to do with them fitting on the truck but it may limit how wide of a tire you can use.

There is some fab work involved for the cap but you can buy Wheel Vintiques (get them from Summit for same price but free shipping) "smoothie" 12 series wheels in 16x8. I know they are a 4" backspace standard but can be had in custom backspacing. From there you need to modify a stock 40 series cap (still available less than $20 each) and a smoothie hubcap to fit on there. I have been messing with this for some time and have a set on my 40 (16x7 size) and they work pretty good. I have another set at home to build for another mud member but I just can't get the time to get it done. You have to cut the dome off of the smoothie cap and cut the inner part out of the 40 cap and have someone tig the two together (both are stainless steel) do it where the black area is and repaint after it is done. On an 80 with full float rear you would probably use 4 front 40 series caps.

Clear as mud right?

Here's the 16x8 on my 40

Crap... it doesn’t list the 80.
Offset is all wrong for an 80. Flex uses Dean Cross Country alloys, which would be cheaper to order from Japan then having a company modify OEM's. Much lighter too

Isn’t a factory 16” alloy wheel zero offset? What is the offset on those steel 16’s? Just guessing here but they should work with spacers (Bora’s are available in 1/4” increments starting at 3/4”) and some 255/85’s. Would look pretty cool, IMO.

From an older thread:

The OEM steel wheel, 42601-60361, is 16x8 with 4.5 inches of backspace and zero offset(exacly the same as the alloy wheel). They weigh ~43 lbs a copy(over twice what the alloy weighs) and are easy to balance and difficult to damage.

Aren't OEM steelies available any more for 80 series or is it just that they don't have the center caps compatibility that takes them off the list?

I saw the smoothie, I think cragar makes them.
Do you have any pics? I’m not following the pairing of the 40 with the smoothie.

Yes I did find a company that makes a steel wheel, the name escapes me right now. And yes I want a hubcap like on the 40.

I emailed cityracer about making a wheel for a 80.
