Ah...that was the gas tank skid plate whose bracket bent. I didn’t get a gas tank skid plate. You think the stock oem gas tank skid plate is strong enough to bet beat up at Moab?

yeah, NO ;)

I'm not pushing hard, moderates, hard moderates, and easy difficults max right now. But . . . it's probably a matter of time.

*Edit per commemt below*
I wouldn't beat or slide on the stocker, but it'll be fine for occasional contact. Youll hit other stuff before the fuel skid. I was speaking for myself above.

I’m not going to get a gas tank skid. Just planning to ride with the stock oem gas skid.

Any new steel skids out there? Really want steel over aluminum. Also any updates on how the rocksteady skids are holding up? I am tempted to pickup a set.

I have a bread on this (somewhere), IIRC, hefty makes one but doesn't advertise it. There are steel nkm-KDSS, but I'll have to reference my spreadsheet and get back to you.

I think GXOR has a compiled list too...
I called hefty a couple months back and they said they didn’t have anything for a KDSS GX470. Aluminum or steel. I will give them another call on Monday and see what they say.
Facebook group is pretty much useless to me since I don’t have Facebook. I can see the main posts but can’t see any of the comments.

I hear ya, I'm not on FB either.

From what I remember google-fuing it, it looked very steep, like a wall almost, to protect the FSB, and provide the flat bolting surface to mount the thing.

My email to HFW June, 2018:
"Do you offer an engine skid for 4th gen 4R/GX470 that's compatible with KDSS?"
Reply:
"Yes we do. Call to order
They are not on our website

I came up with 4r pix of the HFW steel skid here: Aftermarket skid plate mounting - Hefty Fabworks - Page 2 - Toyota 4Runner Forum - Largest 4Runner Forum

Jeez! I'm sorry that I quoted this thread...IN this thread. I'm just tapping away 9n the phone, so tiny screen is challenging to remember which tab is from which thread. I apologise.

So....

Hefty said they don't offer steel a couple months ago? Per his email, I'd call and speak to Chris specifically. Someone else here said he'd heard they do slider kits for GX, again not on their website, but he called and spoke to someone and was able to get a weld-yoirself slider kit for the 470. So I'm getting the impression call it in for best service and info.

@ADVFamilyHauler

So I had to revisit this thread since you reminded me about rocksteady (also mentioned in this thread previously) elsewhere. Soo, I saw his post and will commemt here about a new steel skid I just came across for GX470 KDSS or non-KDSS, steel or Al.
Victory4x4

To the rock steady skid owners, have you built opinions/reviews?

I don’t do higher than medium difficult trails unless the medium trail got more difficult due to rain, snow, or land shifts!

Anyway, with my setup at about 2” lift with 285/70R17s, I rarely hit the skids.

I did bounce on a rock the aluminum rocksteady (RS) front skid And got a slight dent near the middle, but the overall structure of the skid plate is fine and no other damage than a dent.

I wanted aluminum due to the weight savings. The RS skids are beefy, light, and obviously softer than steel. For me, they are doing their job.

Rocksteady isn’t giving me any warm and fuzzies about ordering from them. Have sent 2 emails and no response. Just tried calling and it goes to a persons voicemail and not a company.

Victory4x4 look nice and as one of the only in steel for GX esp KDSS, definitely work a call.... 👍

@DRANGED did you ever order a skid? I don’t want to be the test dummy for victory4x4
Haha, nope. 😁
I was hoping you'd step up. 😉😎

Maybe in a few months I can pull the trigger.
I'm working moar hours now than the past few years. 🤙

A friend (somehow) pounded the EFF out of his 3/16", nonKDSS steel skid 😲
