More bad news for this knuckle head. I really should have checked my leaky Tcase before getting my beast back on the road. I was driving down the hwy as I heard a quiet ticking get louder. And the some other nasty drive line noises. I turned back and limped home. I grabbed the old 24mm and drained what little oil I had in the TC. Half a liter to be exact. Yupp I am a dumb azz. When I finger *** the drain hole with my pinky finger I can feel some kind washer or piece of metal with my finger that let go and found its way to the bottom of the gear box.

So time for the h42 gear set with the slightly lower low range. I have chicken out of the 4 to 1 gear set from AA because of the price. Plus my truck goes anywhere I need it to, when its properly running of course. I will split the TC today and post pics of the minor carnage.
 
That sucks things happen all at once... do you have the gear set already? is yours the 34mm or 38mm tcase? The reason for ask you might need a new front half of the tcase. There is a brass thrust washer that gets spun against the case sometimes.

there is a better double lipped seal between the trans and tcase. Not sure it will fit yours I believe it dosent fit earlier tcases but here is the part number. 90316-48003

If it was oil pumping into the trans that could be a plugged breather. there’s a breather upgrade to do while it’s apart. It allows you to extend your breather with a hose up to the body.

I can't believe the cruiser made it home. I have a 34mm split case so I think everything is going to work out. I bought a tcase off of a friend and there is virtually no play in the gears. I won't rebuild. just an old swappy swap.
 
Aww yeah, the old idler shaft came out and ate the idler gear cluster oil slinger. Always fun, happened to me once upon a time.

So I put every thing back together today with my old front half of the 83 h55 34mm case and the new to me rear section from the 80-82 h42 tcase. It was a bit of a wrestle to get it together. I was trying to bolt up the shifting linkage because I think the tcase is stuck in neutral or I ****ed up. I will know by tomorrow. Crossing my fingers :/

Forgot to mention that I used the stock out put gear from the h55 because its the same gear as the h42. You do not use the H42 rear out put gear or spacer. The high range is the same DUH! Its the low range your changing. You don't have to take the front of the tcase off of the tranny. But I did.

The 5 speed TC front section has the 5th gear oil provision and the 4 speed doesn't. You can not use the front half of the 4 speed case. It will NOT work.

Final low range is 15% lower than previous.

I am still running the same turbo and front axle. And one of those tires is my spare on the back of my truck.

There are no updates. I am saving my truck to use as a skidder when I purchase some acreage.
 
My air research t3 was getting sloppier than a NY prostitute. Soo I added a Garret t3 compressor and guts to my exhaust housing. I would have used the whole garret but there wasn’t enough room for the bolts to turbo/manifold flange. Of course they all snapped so out came the drill and taps. Haven’t taken her out for a rip yet but she spins and sounds good. I wonder if it will produce the 23 psi the 450,xxx km turbo did in the prime of her second hand abuse? Though I would never hit a truck with a woman’s name. Ilean does all the beating.
