I have pulled the complete unit before. If you have a PTO I would advise removing it before.

I went from an engine stand to a timber stand for the trans install...then to a chain hoist for chassis installation. Might give you some ideas:

I do have a couple floor jacks, lots of chain, load leveler, many ratchet straps… and a book of spare cuss words.You may still a transmission jack under the truck to get everything level to install the bolts at the rear motor mounts. With the split transfer case it was so heavy on the output side that tipped the whole assembly way out of level. I also needed a sling and come a long to keep it level until I go to the fire wall.
