I love the look of the SSR swampers but they cost so D*** much and I wonder about the treadlife. I've owned BFG A/T KO's in the past and easily got 60k+ out of them.

How is the tread life on the SSR's?

Thanks

How did you come to choose these as your two final tire choices? They are suited for two entirely different applications.

BFG's for the all around great performance.

SSR's purely for the looks.

Then get Trxus MT's and you'll have the looks like want and a tire that outperforms the BFG AT in all terrain except high speed (as in 75+) highway driving. It won't last as long, though.

Anyway- to answer your question: You won't get nearly the tread life out of a swamper that you will from a BFG. The rubber is softer for better traction, but lesser tread life.

Don't forget that when picking a tire you also need to consider load rating, ride comfort, fuel economy, etc..

Any swamper or M/T tire will decrease your fuel economy. Mine went down nearly 2 MPG.

SSR

I have SSR's on my truck right now. Although they look cool I would not recommend the tire if you play in the rocks at all. The side walls are weak and they chunk something horrible. I will be changing these out when they are totally exhausted. What type of wheeling are you doing?

Agreed. I had SSRs on my 80 when I bought it. However, I thought they worked pretty well in the rocks except for the not-so-strong sidewalls. Were fine on the road for a while, then got very loud, and very rough.

Have the AT's now. Great on the road, decent in the rocks. Great for more expedition type wheeling.

BFG's it is!

Thanks for the input

My fuel economy has been unchanged in the two times I switched from BFG AT's to Trxus MT's, and both times the trxus were bigger.

Mine dropped. I did nothing to the truck other than change tires and saw a noticeable decrease in milage per tank. After I did the actual calculation I was pretty shocked.

I had the BFG A/T KO's on my Tacoma and they had 60k+ on them when I sold the truck. And they still had some miles left.

My neighbor had the BFG AT KO's on his Tacoma and I had to pull him out of the snow 7 or 8 times last winter. They still had some miles left and he dumped them for Revos in order to get his manhood back :flipoff2:

I guess you always have to pay attention to the region of the world you are in and the truck instead of paying so much attention to what tires are being used.

Was your friend's tacoma like this:

Or like this:

I'm Callin Bullsheeet.. I've owned Revo's and never had any luck with them. I've had both BFG AT and MT and didnt care for the MT due to fast wear and road noise. But the Revo's wore out fast and weren't worth a crap from day 1. My $.02

Actually, the Michelin LTX's I had got better traction in mud and snow than my Revo's. I'm sure some have had good luck with them I'm just not one of them.:flipoff2:

I've never cared for the looks of the BFG a/t. Walleyefisher, have you considered Cooper discoverer s/t or mickey thompson ATZ (not ATZ PLUS). They look a lot more aggressive than the BFG a/t and I'd put money on them being better in most situations off road.

Anyone ever have sidewall puncture issues w/ the SSR's?

I don't care for Revos either, which is why I don't run them. As for strapping his sorry ass out of his own driveway all winter long last winter, you can call it whatever you want. He definitely called Bullsheet and finally got different tires, and he'll still get stuck when snows big and I'll have to pull him out of a snowdrift up the hill again the next day. BFG AT's freeze up, and it's not fun when they do, especially when you need a tow strap to get into your own garage.

But hey, to each his own. Only get an all terrain if you don't need to be capable on all terrain :flipoff2:

I still wouldn't get SSR's at any price. And everybody loves the BFG AT until they know better.

SSR's hold up GREAT milage-wise for a swamper (I have seen 40K on a full size blazer IF KEPT rotated, inflated correctly, balanced, and a good alingment) AT KO's are great on the street/packed snow, SUCK in deep snow! but you can get nearly 50K out of them also. Depends what you want.

I would listen to Nay though whether you think his story is bull**** or not. But Revo's would be a no go for me too along with the BFG a/t's.
