SSR vs. BFG A/T

I was being sarcastic when I said I was calling BS. Unfortunately you can't use context when posting, so my apologies. I really was just yanking your chain. I have some 35" BFG AT KO's on my 87 suburban and I've never had any trouble with snow or mud. But I'm not in the northland so most the time our snowfall is in inches and not feet.

Yes, rock cuts to sidewall, multiple puncture's. They are weak.

I wasn't gonna assume that since I've never had (or wanted) a pair.

But P4WOR did notice that and commented on it. (Years ago) And I was hoping they've fixed the problem by now. Its a shame thats a radial and aggressive tread pattern tire to have an Achilles heel like that. Its available in some nice sizes to IIRC. But sadly, it'll never be on my list.

Then get Trxus MT's and you'll have the looks like want and a tire that outperforms the BFG AT in all terrain except high speed (as in 75+) highway driving. It won't last as long, though.

even though i usually disagree with nay... he is right... thr trxus he mentions is the perfect blend of the two tires you are looking and just for you, they look bad ass.

Ya, I guess the only thing that steered me away from the trxus tire was he said it doesnt last as long. Where is the cheapest place to get em?

I think you may have swayed me.

Thanks

And everybody loves the BFG AT until they know better.

:D That's funny and oh so true - I'm about to dump the BFG ATs on my 62 for Nitto Terra Grapplers. My BFGs will spin if it even looks like rain (in 2WD)...

4wheelparts.com stocks them, but I've heard rumors that they're the devil. No experiences of my own with them. I also read somewhere (here or Expedition Portal) that Discount Tire can special order them.

Anyone ever have sidewall puncture issues w/ the SSR's?

Both SSR's and the BFG MT's and AT's have what are considered "weak sidewalls" out here in the land of the big rocks.
Not many people (out here) who really "wheel" use either of them.

Here's a two SSR day and a 2 BFG MT day (I only have one photo of the 2nd dead BFG. The other dead BFG was on the same vehicle earlier down the trail)..

In the last photo, I'm the one in the green hat with my back to the camera "man, another ripped BFG, sigh"....

No dead MT/R's ;)
