Is this really a fix or did you, @NHouston, eventually experience the fault again? It has been an intermittent fail code for me for the last week. And my state inspection sticker expires in 10 days. :banghead:
Did not repair since Toyota has issued a recall. Waiting on letter from Toyota to have issue repaired at dealer for free. Mine still comes on occasionally, but only when someone is riding in passenger seat. I just took mine in and passed inspection in Texas. You should only fail inspection if ABS light is on when you do inspection.

Just received the recall notice in the mail yesterday from Toyota. BUT it says to wait for the next recall follow-up notice since there isn't a mitigation in place yet, this is simply a notification.
Is this what everyone received too?

You mean it doesn't show up on the OBDII and emissions check? It's required in my state. That's a relief I suppose.

Shouldn’t pop up on inspection unless the ABS light is currently on which would generate an active code. The inspection centers don’t look at past codes when hooking up the OBDII, only active ones.

Yes. That's exactly what I received also - waiting for Toyota to get the parts in so they can, "...have the front passenger seatbelt assembly replaced with a new one FREE OF CHARGE."

HTH

Has anyone had any luck getting this fixed outside of Toyota and getting reimbursed by Toyota?

I've called local dealers, "currently no fix". I'd like it fixed before we travel, summer is upon us in Atlanta.

PS, I don't understand the pre-crash vs non?

My light is currently on. Called dealer and they are still waiting on fix to be issued. Dealer called Toyota and offered me free rental until fix is resolved. Only catch is you have to leave car at dealer.

Unless the independent mechanic knows the official toyota fix procedure and had access to the updated parts it wont be truly fixed. Might make the light go away but the condition that caused the recall will still be present.

IIRC there is provision in the recall for reimbursing owners that paid to get a SRS issue with the front passenger seatbelt resolved. But again, all they are doing is covering the cost of an incomplete repair. To be safe for the long term toyota needs to get at it and apply their change/fix.

Thanks, was thinking a new belt fixed the issue, not just resetting a timeline to failure again.

Has anyone worked through the reimbursement? I'm entertaining paying to have the belt replaced and submitting for reimbursement to at least have operable safety equipment in an upcoming trip. Then I'll let Toyota fix it for real when they get around to addressing broken safety features.

I haven't heard yet what the replacement parts are.. but if it's a new/improved seatbelt assembly you might not be able to get the old part any longer if it is deemed unsafe.

I don't know if there are time restrictions on reimbursement. I'd bet their offer of a rental car (while your cruiser/LX sits at the dealer) if you have need of your passenger seat is intended to cover that scenario.

Maybe try to find the text of the recall and see what it says.

Similarly related has anyone been told their VIN is not in recall upon inspection? I was recently at dealer and during check in, they mentioned recall (2009), but on checkout my SA claimed my VIN was not actually within the affected sequence of VINs.

Did you get paperwork from toyota?
Also you can check for yourself: Lookup Safety Recalls & Service Campaigns

I have no paperwork as it was likely sent to PO since I purchased in February.

In a not shocking turn of events, checking the VIN says I am affected. So who is right... who knows. I told him when he said I was not in sequence I found that odd as I think we are largely operating under the idea that every vehicle is affected. But who knows.

My understanding was all USDM 200s. And sadly, I trust my vague memory/"understanding" more than most service advisors at this point.

In addition to dealer confusion, it's very possible that you are affected yet the fix has not been identified / communicated to dealers yet? Mine is in that category.

Good point. When he ran my VIN he said there was a recall to which I told him I was aware. He then said that there was not a remedy to the issue as well. To which again, I said I know. It was upon pickup he gave assurance that my vehicle was in fact not actually affected by the recall. I scratched my head and just didn't question it as I was happy to get out of there at that point. Like you said, certainly some confusion, and I tend to believe my SA was likely incorrect when he gave that bit of assurance. I'll continue to follow these threads and when, or rather IF, there's a solution being adopted across the early MYs, I'll likely touch base with the dealer again.

Two hours in a non-toyota shop, a new toyota belt and no more lights:

Submitted my reimbursement request to Toyota and they had me a check in under 5 days.
That may, or may not, resolve the underlying problem. Quite frankly, applying some DIY fix to a safety issue where there isn't a known fix is a bit foolish.

The seatbelt system is tied in with the airbag system (obviously) and any fixes at this point may actually keep the airbags from working properly. Unfortunately, you may only find out that it doesn't work as intended when it doesn't work as intended.
