This is the pic from the MAF site for the 60 SR kit.

Is the shackle angle in this pic OK.
I thought it looked to far forward. Would this allow any down flex?

I planning on ordering the kit and have heard that movin the hanger fwd may be needed. (FrontRange4x4s Thread).

Thanks

That pic is at full drop

....

I think that pic is unweighted. So that's what it would look like drooped. I have this kit on my 60 that I got off of a parts cruiser. I'm a fan. So far no problems. The question I have is that it requires shims and I don't know the degree. They must have stuck to the axle that was taken from the parts rig before I got the SR. I have 2 degree shims in there now. Not sure if they're correct though. I say go for it.

Why do you want to do this mod?

Why do you want to do this mod?

Trying to get as much lift as possible w/o a SOA.
I've read a lot of pros and cons on the SR and think I will give it a shot.
I cant leave well enough alone.
I need a winter project.
The SR kit is on sale. ON SALE
etc.

Thanks
Dave

DONT do it!

if you do end up doin it, do it the right way and use a normal spring hanger that doesnt sit as low or lover than the stock shackle does like the MAF kit does.

If you are dead set on doin it then use a normal mount for up front so it will increase front approach like THESE HERE <----- this is a link

....

Hang on cruiser guy. Maybe before we go throwing all our own opinions at him based on what we want or what we wish we did or any number of things shouldn't we be asking like mace did what the reason for this particular mod is? If he doesn't wheel hard maybe the approach angle doesn't matter much to him? I would like to think that I like to abuse my piece and drag it's ass and bang it's nose into rocks dirt and whatever is in the way. And I don't mind the SR at all. I think it is more out of the way then the shackles I had there before. I would rather nudge something with the solid mount end then the shackle. Sure the way you suggested is better but is more involved and requires more work. Maybe he doesn't have the tools and the place to do a more involved modification like that. I'm just saying we should look at the variables. Most 60's aren't wheeled all that hard. But I'm not afraid to dent and scratch mine. I've noticed that most 60's I see on here are pretty shiny. Except for that klingon guy his poor cruiser is redheaded I think.....

fair enough...

that said i still dont recommend that kit, if you are wanting more lift and that is your sole purpose (as was stated) there are better ways to do so like with longer shackles and and such. not to mention their kit makes the front sit higher than the rear. I just really dont like their kit, i love that is is bolt on but i think it should be much lower profile.

the only real reason i can see for a SR would be for better approach (personally) not so much for lift.

my 42 has a SR on it installed by one of the P.O's and it looks to be the same as the MAF kit bolt on, hangs really low ect. now i dont really wheel the 40 all that hard and im still not a real fan of it and will be going with a low profile spring mount when i have some time to fool with it.

Thanks for the replies. I do wheel it moderate.
My buddy has the SR kit and I like the look and lift. The ride is also good (on 35s).

I was going down the long shackle path but it seemed that that had more detractors than the SR.

I would be adding the 4+ 5 3/8 to rear to keep it level.

I do have OME Heavies so I am concerned about the resulting angles.

-Frontrange: Do you have pics of the Front Shackle angle after your hanger relocate?

Thanks
Dave

Here is what my buddies 62 looks like on the front shackle PS.

He got the entire MAF OME/SR kit which I believe has the Dakar Light springs.

This doesnt look too bad to my novice eye.

FrontRange, how did this compare to yours before you moved the hangers?

thanks
Dave

Here's mine now after moving forward. Looks about the same as your buddies but I run the heavy's like you do. I also use the 6.375 in the rears to level it. I believe I have a spare set if you're interested David.

I do recommend the kit and am very happy with it and 35's. I tried long shackles but they're just scary. One thing about the kit is that anyone can install it and not worry about suspension geometry. I wheel mine pretty hard but it's also my DD so that makes a difference. I'll never wheel mine as hard as Kling-on unless I happen upon another one to use as a DD. I'm an hour from the Rockies so getting there fast & straight down the road is important too.

It does provide additional lift and helps the approach angle as well. I wouldn't trust it as bolt on only though. Mine's thoroughly welded and while I was in there I raised the bumper a couple inches. I have to say that after reading everyone's opinions I decided to do it and will encourage others to as well. ;)

Thanks for taking the time to get a picture. Is your spare set the ones you posted a while back w/o Pins?
I'd love to save some money but not sure if I can get just pins from MAF, cant find them on the site.

Thanks again
Dave

Forgot I posted them but those would be the ones. I'll see what I have for pins and PM what I find.

Hey be nice to big O she gets her feeling hurt easy... And I do have a nice lookin 60 as well

:whoops: Made me look!

Yeah, that's nice. ;)

Thanks shes my DD street ride now but I've wheeled her hard in the past.... Put back to question at hand.... Run the shackle rev as made and update it if you think it needs it later....every wheeler is different and you might be ok with it that way
