I'm sure I've over looked it, too close to the forest to see the trees as it were; TPMS question: I've got an old set of rims/tires in the garage with the old TPMS still there, if I toss them on the truck, will I trip the light? Is this something I can address without techstream? TIA
It might. If you want to avoid Techstream, you could go the route of:

You have to download the app to phone and pay a subscription - 1 month, $14.99
REQUIRES IN-APP SUBSCRIPTION TO USE FULL FEATURES (however, a FREE 1-month trial is included)

I believe there are other readers and apps out there that can do it but the above is what I used.

Prharpers advice is good.

To be more specific the vehicle has the current sensor IDs coded into the TPMS computer. You’ll need to program it for the new sensor IDs. If you don’t already have those you’ll either need to open each tire and get the ID off the body of the sensor or have a tire shop scan them so your computer can be programmed.

When you go to program the new IDs make note of the current ones stored in the computer! That’ll make it much easier to go back to the current wheels in the future if needed.

Edit: also it appears the old carista module is NLA. The newer version has a much faster communication rate anyway.

Edit2: and for the record these modules do work with OBDFusion for diagnostics and engine monitoring while on the move. I have techstream at home but bring my carista on roadtrips.

Awesome. I've got the Carista, though I've never downloaded the app and run it. Just curious at this point, as I know mud terrains aren't amazing in snow and still have some A/Ts sitting. The chances of me actually doing this are very slim.

Repost as I don’t think it was answered:

Do our rigs have “clear flood mode”?

On my old truck, prior to starting you could push accelerator to the floorboard and turn the key (cue collective gasps) and the oil pressure would eventually bump to operational pressure without cranking. You could then release the pedal/key and start as you would normally. I ask as I’d like to make sure the oil filter, etc is as primed as possible following oil changes, etc. TIA

I always took “cranking” to mean the starter rotating the engine before starting.. from context do you mean actually getting fuel/spark to start?

Interesting.

Who wants to try this out, see if it works?

No starting, but yes to the starter rotating the engine. The idea is to build oil pressure prior to starting. I know fOrD has it. But haven’t tried on anything Asian yet.

Just checked, doesn’t work on my 2013 cruiser. I had the engine warm and had just shut it off for residual oil pressure. Instantly revved, I got off the pedal in time for it to peak at 3500.

IMO much like the 0-20 vs 5-30 thing, I can’t imagine a 3UR failing because the lube system wasn’t primed after an oil change. There are just too many of these things happily cruising along at high mileage without any of this special care.

The Entune apps. now don't work. They used to work for me but I didn't really use them much as my phone had better information.

Currently, if I run them with the Toyota app running on my phone and I ask for something like gas, the entune display says it has no connection to the phone. The phone works fine for phone and media player, so there is a connection, apparently just not the right kind.

But here's the weird thing: about 3 weeks ago I was running very very low on gas. The fuel light comes on and I get a warning on the display that says "You're very low on fuel would you like to see a list of gas stations" or words to that effect. So I selected "Yes".

And lo and behold a list of gas stations appeared and they were all nearby and up to date as far as I can tell.

I have no subscriptions with Toyota.

Again, I can't seem to get a list of gas stations using the entune app. or anything else out of the Entune apps.

Does anyone know what's going on?

I must have missed a memo.

PS: My LC was built early 2018; I have the old radiator.

This piece of rubber trim is not flush like the other side. what's the best way to get it back down and what kind of glue/adhesive should I be using? Do I need to remove the whole piece? because it goes down the length of the windshield.

Entune apps suck period. That message you had is normal when you get to about 4 or 5 gallons left in your tank, no app crap required.

Right...thumbs down on entune. However it doesn't endear me to Toyota that they sold me something and just took it away. Why not make it useful? Enhance my loyalty. I digress.

What I found odd was the the LC could get that list on its own but I couldn't get that very same list via entune like I used to.

Any idea HOW my LC got the list of gas stations? Was it through my phone (connected for phone/text & mp3) or on its own?

It could be from the navigation? If I recall you did update yours which should have newer points of interest (POI) such as gas stations.

Gas stations are part of the maps in my 2013 and will show up at 0.5 mile or less zoom if you enable them as a POI

OhhhhhKayyyyyyyyyyyy....
I did update the map recently; ordering it was a hassle.
I shoulda figured this out on my own.
Thanks!

Technically the top portion clips into a stainless retainer that is affixed to it's spot in the gutter with Flexible Epoxy. That whole clip sometimes gets pulled off when a windshield installer pulls the trim, other times the clip remains but gets bent open a little.

If the clip rips off installers often just use some of their excess urethane adhesive from the panel install. If they go to the effort of cleaning the area well that could work, but sometimes it doesn't.

If you lift the trim and look under there, see whether the metal clip is still attached to the roof or pulled up with the trim. If it's still on the roof you can probably bend the sides inward a little so the teeth catch the trim again. If the metal clip has lifted you'll probably need to order a new clip and consider doing the whole trim piece.. if you do that I'd buy the white plastic retainers that go along the edge of the windshield too.

Sorry I don't have pics.. I did all of this a number of years ago when I got my 200.

How much metal is “normal” on the rear diff drain plug when you change the fluid after 25-30k miles? Today is the first time I’ve done it myself, and only did the rear (because I had a leak from bumping the drain plug on a trail), but the plug had a lot more what seemed like grease or sludge on it, and under that was definitely metal “hair” on the magnet.

Attaching a photo but this really doesn’t show what I had because I’d wiped it clean with the rubber glkve before thinking “I should take a picture of this.” 4.88 nitro gears, and I’m wondering (a) is it normal to have some “fuzz” on the plug at this interval with aftermarket gears, and (b) what does normal Toyota gear wear metal shavings look like?

You’re not at all the first person to find this after switching to aftermarket gears. That was a primary reason when I was looking at 4.30s I was adamant that they be Toyota.

I’d bet subsequent changes will be better
