Do you think my battery lifting strap is safe to use? It expired a year ago.

Okay, my next stupid question of the day: my 2016 head unit insists on reverting back to the navigation screen every time the truck is started. I read a few older threads that seem to suggest there is no solution. Wondering if any fixes have come up in the last few years? Something like maybe a software update or disabling the navigation function?? Also out of curiosity is it only 2016 that has the issue?

Setup > General > Auto Screen Change to Off

Yeah, I did that. Makes no difference.

To clarify, I'm trying to get it to stay on the "Home" screen. With Auto Screen Change set to Off it will stay on "Audio" if that's where I've left it. But most of the time when I am driving I have it on "Home" so the truck changes it back to "Nav".

This windshield molding piece is coming up on both sides.

Questions: Are these things difficult to replace? And I'm confused about the clips. Do I need to order them as well? How many? Are there two kinds (#3 & #4)?

The molding isn't your problem. There is a clip that is glued to the roof channel that has come undone. Part 4 I assume. I've read that Toyota says the molding should be fully replaced if you remove it, but I've also seen a windshield replacement video where the guy was able to remove and reinstall it by releasing the clips correctly.

edit: Yours does sort of look different than my 2010 LX. Not sure if there were some year to year variations, or if it's just a wierd angle on the picture. I guess possibly the molding itself is splitting. If that's the case, then ignore what i said. The usual failure mode is the last clip coming unglued. But it looks like there is still some sort of clip in the roof channel on yours.

What paint is the closest match to the powder coating Slee uses on their sliders? Need to do some touchup on the sides.

For me, this has been indistinguishable from the powder coat:

I used a textured satin and if turned out identical.

Get the XL Yokohama G056.
Trust
mine came with 20" yokohama geolander H/T.
they are good on the highway and in rain. Have routinely had them up to 80 mph, and they have no vibration or shimmy. But they are only fair in snow/ice.
and i would not take them off road on anything even remotely technical.

It’s a PITA. There are the rivets (#3) that is pictured that are difficult to seat flush with the windshield in place if accidentally removed. Then there are the plastic clips (without seeing the part number, I think it is #4) that press on to the molding and snap over the rivets. There are 4 rivets and 4 clips on each side.

When removing, it is a challenge to 1) not bend the moulding, AND 2) not break the clips.

IIRC correctly, at the top where yours is loose, snaps onto a bracket on the truck. Yours looks like the bracket may still be in place and the cap/flashing/pretty bit has delaminated or separated.

Question on braking/ABS. Note this is my first large/heavy vehicle - 2013 LX570 with 285/70/17 AT tires. Stock otherwise.

I had to make a emergency-ish stop the other day. After putting the pedal down fairly quickly I noticed a point to where the grabbing felt linear to a basically, full-on, locked wheels/ABS engaging type of grab towards the end.

My question is, with the off-road tires (they've only got a few thousand miles on them) + weight, is this fairly common? I'm thinking since it's not a stock setup, it's easier to lock up the system/engage ABS. I tried this again this time in a more controlled situation and I replicated it. Hard braking but not jammed to the floor and I was able to lock up the system.

The car does not seem to pull to one side which rules out some sort of sticking caliper (I think).

My 2018 does this when the brake assist safety feature is triggered. Not sure what logic it uses, but it takes over and really pounds the brakes in an emergency stop. People tend to start backing off of the pedal when they shouldn't and this compensates. Not sure if this was a feature on the pre-2016s though. Check your manual.

It's pretty disconcerting the first time around if you've never driven a vehicle with a BA system.

2013 LC. 275/70r18 KO2

I’ve had two “emergency brake” episodes/incidents. And I’m pretty sure it was what you’re describing.

First time: 30mph slight downhill, on-coming car turns left in front of me. I brake hard, the seatbelt tightens up; I’m waiting for ABS to pulse but it doesn’t. Tires screech, but the braking is surprisingly even/balanced. Tons of nose dive, but the truck stops. Disaster averted, other driver waves an apology.

Second time: 70mph highway/flat. Car in the right lane decides to merge from a dead stop. Same: I brake hard. Hear tire screech, no ABS pulsating. Seatbelts tighten truck stops in a very controlled straight line.

Similar thing happened to me once or twice: kid on bike locally and on Baltimore beltway. Both times I didn't think I hit the brakes that hard. What I thought was a firm braking ended up leaving rubber on the road. I didn't really like it.

Could someone please tell me where the fuse is located for the trailer brake controller?

Here is a brief explanation of Brake Assist

I'm guessing that I do have brake assist as this is exactly what happened/as staggrlee described. I've never heard of Toyota brake assist before - thanks for the video link.

So what I gather from this is that if I jam the brake pedal with the right amount of force/timing, the system thinks I'm doing an emergency stop and therefore applies emergency stop power right away....rather than needing that split second for the pedal to reach the floor.

Yeah I think it's just a calculation based on accelerator/brake pedal modulation etc., it's not as sophisticated as say Volvo/BMW systems that combine predictive braking with radar/video inputs. Those are usually called "collision/pedestrian avoidance" systems and are sometimes completely autonomous. In the LC/LX case the system is a little over eager in triggering and too aggressive in application IMO. That's how you get rear-ended.

Pretty impressive on this Volvo semi though...
