Hi all.
I was wondering if there were any 1" spring spacers for the 80? Or anything that can be had for cheap? I was hoping for a 6" Slee kit , But that will be down the road, I just needed a bit so I can go out and play a bit:)
Are there any issues that could come up? ie. shock length, brake lines....?
Thanks

Mr. Gasket makes rubber ones...I believe they are $10 each plus shipping.

I got mine from Jegs.com and got a bumper sticker and a hat with my order.

Brian, you can use Mr. Gasket spring spacers #1285 up front and they are 1". Several folks have used them to raise the front back up after adding a front bumper/winch. You can also use the OME spring trim spacers stacked up to your desired amount, they come in 5-mm and 10-mm, but I believe they don't advise you going above 20 to 25-mm. They are also relatively expensive for what they are. Christo also offers aluminum spacers front and rear and a nice adjustable one for the front but they are a bit pricey especially compared to just buying his 6" springs. Lastly, you can always fab up your own or have a machine shop do it but still might not be cost effective. Hope this helps.

One thing to note about these spacers is most do not lower the bumpstops (front spring bumpstop (atleast on my '97) is inside the spring). This isn't usually an issue, but something to think about. With the Mr Gasket ones and the OME packers you are just putting a spacer at the end of the spring. With Christo's spacers you actually lower the bumpstop (not sure about his adjustable ones, but his 1", 1.5", etc do).

I have the Mr Gasket 1" ones in mine, they have worked fine, certainly worth the $15 they cost me...I would like to lower my bumpstops however, since my tires can hit the fender on full compression...so something you might want to think about.

Good Luck..

Hi again.
Thanks foir the info so far, I do have a few other Q's?
But first off, my 80 is stock, I dont have a winch yet, Just looking for some room.
I didnt find the Mr.Goodwrench spacers, I did find some #1287's Could this be the one's or do I need to look a bit harded?
Also are they only for the front?
On Slee, they need to adj. the pinion angle for there 1.5" is it that big of a prob at 1"
Thanks again

The Mr. Gasket spacers are for the front only. If you have no lift then a 1 inch spacer is not going to cause you pinion angle problems :) I got mine from http://www.summitracing.com/ for $9.95 each. Catalog number mrg-1285.

Brian,
I picked mine up from the local auto parts place where they had a Mr. Gasket catalogue. They ordered them for $14 a piece and they covered the shipping.

It's "stink BUG"....

Could be but I like “stink butt”, term is also used to describe surfers and snowboarders who squat down and stick their a*s’s out when their ride. Looks like they are trying to take a dump, thus we use the term “stink butt”. Six of one, half a dozen of another.

Hi all.
I bought some from a Local shop for $13.00, Put them in in short order, It was a pain without a spring compresor:( BUT it does look better, I have a bit of a clunk up front now, I think they need to sink in a tad?!?
Thanks for all the help

Did you use them in the back also? Are there any problems/concerns (top heavy, higher center of gravity) with using them in the rear?

Thanks,

The Mr Gasket spacers are two small in diameter to use in the rear. The gap in circumference would be well over four inches. I wouldn't try to do it by piecing it together either.

Seems like it wouldn't look right to do the spacers in the front and nothing to the rear. I guess the best/only good option for the rear is a low to medium lift with the 1" spacers up front?

Thanks,

OHHHH FOR PETES SAKE BUY THE FRIGGIN OME lift already!!!!

I just got my spacers from Summit today. Yea, finally a mod that requires a jack and hand tools. What is the drill with installing these things?

Disconnect the front sway bar and the lower shock bolt. Lift one side at a time with tyre on. Push down on lifted wheel to open a gap above the spring. Insert spacer, lower the jack, bolt the shock and sway bar; repeat for the other side.

If you live in rust prone areas (and even if you don't) it is a good idea to soak the lower shock bolts with PB Blaster or comparable penetrant for a few days before you start disassembly.

Still no one has mentioned the down side of going with the spacers. Sounds like a cheap solution to fit 35's (315's).
