For those who have installed a Dana 44 or 60 front axle, did you fabricate new spring hangers or does anyone make weld on mounts to accommodate the wider spring pad locations? Also, did you use the Landcruiser springs or GM etc.

Check out RuffStuff :

I narrowed a 44 close to stk FJ40 width, a long, long, time ago, way b4 longfields. On the frt I used the stk FJ40 spring hangers in their stk location, and aftermarket 4" FJ40 springs. I also only shorten the long side of the waggy frt end. I believe I moved the stk spring perch over to fit the drivers side spring. Running a low pinion 44 is like polishing a turd.

2x on Ruff Stuff outboarding brackets. Affordable, saves a bunch of time on fab and look nice.

I outboarded my stock hangers to use a 60's front axel with OME 2.5" springs. Made these myself because I wanted to bolt rather than weld to the frame (was worried about weakening or tempering the frame). Rear hangers cradle the frame the fronts I cut off the stock hanger, extended the fish plates and welded them back on in the new location.

Used modified Ruff Stuff spring perches on the rear 60 axel, they make a good well priced product!

I would get new later model style front hangers that use the larger bushings If I did it again.

I used rough stuff for the perches when adding fj60 axles. I modified them and actually notched the frame to keep my spring over low as possible. I used tahoe leaf springs at all four corners and they are super comfortable and flexible.

Very Nice.

So I can just stay with the FJ40 springs and locations I think Im going to cut 4-1/2" off the drivers side axle housing to utilize the factory spring perch cast into the diff housing on the passenger side. After I cut the 4-1/2" from the drivers I'll sleeve and truss the axle housing. This will give me a total of 64-1/2" front (69" originally) and then I'll buy the 6 lug hubs for my 14 bolt which will narrow the wheel width 2-1/4" for a total of 64-3/4" rear (67" originally). Then I'll just weld on new spring perches on the rear. I haven't actually done the measuring yet, just going of the internet. So it should work in theory. Thanks for your replies.
