They are easy to use, and also easy to get hurt with. Keep in mind there is no hospital nearby, and no cell signal to call for help. I do have some trauma training and a medkit on board, but I'm not very good at sewing.

PM me you email and I'll send you the GPS files.

Can you not edit posts on this forum?

I have a med kit that can keep me alive. Enough quick clot and gauze to handle just about anything =p

I'll shoot you my email now.

@tacosupreme I explained to my dad about the possible pitfalls of taking his sprinter on this trip. He totally understood. He was wondering if there would be a possibility of meeting us each night at the camp spot and then taking the highway/paved road to the next camp spot? I told him I would check with you. I knew one or more were actual camp sites and I'm sure that access would be pretty easy. They would be there with a fire going and ready. Is this a possibility?

Absolutely, I had already thought of that but just haven't made time to pull grids and convert them to "directions" for the bypass routes. A close friend passed away, and I haven't been able to focus on this much. Give me a week or two and I'll get it squared away.

I am bringing guns. I am bringing at least one chain saw to hate. I am bringing whiskey and a good attitude. Looking forward to making some new friends....

Has anyone else looked at the GPS tracks? They're not very detailed... Many miles of just straight lines from one point to another.

I emailed you a more detailed set of tracks, just don't get hung up on following them exactly. I see them as general suggestions, as a dirtbike will fit where our tanks will not.

Here is a good resource for those of you concerned about the snowpack. Just click on the name of the site (ie Ochoco Meadows) then look at the 30 day plot. Another couple of weeks of warm weather and we may have to worry about dusty roads... http://www.nrcs.usda.gov/wps/portal/nrcs/detail/or/snow/?cid=nrcs142p2_046181

Wow lots of action, for some reason I wasn't getting notified of new posts. It's been warm this week and looking like the same for next, so that should put a big dent in the snow pack. I don't have a CB, but I could probably get one by then, probably a hand held.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your friend @tacosupreme

Couple things. If you guys have 2-way radios bring them. We will have CB's for coms, but if we are outside the vehicle the 2-ways come in handy.
Also I was going to check but think I already know the answer. There will be places to get ice for the coolers correct? I am guessing so since we are getting gas at places. I dont have a fridge (yet) in the cruiser and will need ice.

I have a couple 2-way radios I can bring, no problem.

As for ice... You think you'll need to re-stock after just a day or two? If so, I can throw an extra bag in my cooler for you.

It's very obnoxious that I cannot edit my posts yet... I was going to ask if at the fuel stations you guys think they'll have premium? I know Mitchell and Fossil both don't, so curious if the (I imagine) smaller towns we'll fuel up in will.

If not, @GSPRunner and I will need to bring some octane booster to keep the superchargers happy.

I have 2 Baofeng UV-5R's programmed to GMRS channels. They work 10x better than CB and you can walk around with them, with the added bonus of being able to communicate with normal walmart handhelds.

Seneca has ice, but let me offer a pro tip. Freeze water bottles, and as much food as you can (hotdogs for day 3, etc). No wet mess, and you have drinking water as it melts. Our cheap coleman cooler will keep food cold for a week with a layer of frozen bottles on the bottom. I am certain we will pass many snow banks as well. I was at 6000' and got my motorcycle stuck in the snow this weekend.

As for fuel...Other than day one we will be limited to "regular" fuel and diesel. Bring octane boost or mix race gas in to prevent ping city.

Camp 1A, 13MAY16, arriving 0200 ZULU/7PM local (maybe later)
Latitude: 44° 3'15.55"N
Longitude: 119° 5'44.07"W

Camp 2A, 14MAY16, arriving 2400 ZULU/5PM local (probably earlier)
Latitude: 44°46'53.33"N
Longitude: 118°35'55.80"W

Camp 3A? 15MAY16, arriving 2400 ZULU/5PM local (very likely earlier)
Latitude: 45°22'13.76"N
Longitude: 118°32'53.72"W

I am considering rerouting a bit for 3A(like 15 miles off course) and going to Indian Lake. The reasons are because camping at 7000' ASL gets arctic, and the lake is much lower. Also there are facilities for you city folks. Camp 1A has an outhouse, camp 2A is a quite fancy FS campground. The downside is it really isn't that far from camp2A, the upside is I can divert a bit and show you guys some cool stuff along the way (Jumpoff Joe, Vinegar hill, Indian rock, Chinamans Gulch, etc) I would like to see if you guys would prefer boondocking with no facilities and no people other than us, or built up "pay" campgrounds. One unpleasant reason I chose those spots is that if 30 people handle business in various catholes it creates quite a minefield... I assume with all the kids and whatnot you would prefer USFS campgrounds, but I could be wrong. What do you guys think?

I'll camp wherever, but I prefer camping in the sticks a little more. But I'm good with campgrounds if that works out better for others.

And, I may just have to say screw it and continue on into Monday with you guys.

Me too, but I also don't want to create a TP minefield in any of my "good" spots, lol.

I'd also prefer to camp outside of campgrounds, but I do understand the appeal for the families. I don't mind a campground as long as it's not an unholy amount per night.

Depending on my schedule I may also be able to swing monday... I am not going to plan for it quite yet, however.

Indian lake is $10 a night... not too bad. I don't expect many other early season campers, and I would expect we have both campgrounds mostly to ourselves. I have a "B" list at the ready if this adventurous spirit continues, if it was just me I'd wing it and camp wherever I found a cool spot, but with a bunch of people that's hard to do. The Monday leg may not be open yet, it snowed again today up there.

I'm good with camping wherever. Monday is starting to sound pretty fun.
