True, but you have some pretty big tires to air down and float on too!

Is this Best Western in Prineville? I might just do that too, as I'll probably get in late on Thursday and won't want to bother setting up camp so I can get a good nights rest and be ready for 6am the next morning!

Ya it's in Prineville. There are cheaper places in town, but it's in a convenient place (next to restaurants and grocery store) and I stay there for work quite a bit and always had positive experiences.

Thanks sir!

I too will be staying in town somewhere on Thursday night. I'll look into the Stafford. If a lot of us will be staying there, is that a better place to meet up? Not familiar with Prinville at all. :meh:

The reason I picked the gas station on the North end of town on main street is because that is the last gas for 150 miles, and across the street is a huge empty parking lot. My 3FE needs every drop it can get! I will leave the Stafford Inn at 0530, if you want to link up and convoy to the meet up spot, you and anyone else are more than welcome. In fact, we are leaving Pendleton at 5pm on Thursday if you want to convoy to Prineville. As we get closer and get a finite list going, we'll exchange cell numbers and whatnot. I'm excited, and looking forward to it!

Is there some way to get a map with route that I can download on my phone or tablet? Don't mind paying for it. But i t doesn't sound like it's worth buying the paper copies.

My plan is to leave my house, 10 min North of Seattle by noon. Should take me 6-7 hours to get down there. I'll be ready for a beer when I arrive!

Maybe. I have both the "official" waypoints and tracks from someone who rode it on a dirtbike. It is possible to convert the files and load them on your device. I did it with the Motion-X app on my iPhone, and I cached the map data so I could use it without cell data. I tested it this weekend on a portion of Route 5 (on four wheelers) and it didn't load very well, and on the small screen was largely useless. I need to buy a dedicated GPS one of these years. PM me your email addy and I'll send the files I have.

I've got some OBDR .gpx files laying around somewhere I got a few years back... shoot me a PM with e-mail info and I can forward them to anyone that would like to look them over.

EDIT--these aren't complete by any stretch, but it looks like it covers Seneca--Unity and has other North/South bits in it.

EDIT x2--I've determined this is Route 5, only.

I downloaded the file you sent me and it uploaded to my Garmin application on my computer no problem. I am sure it will transfer to my handheld (I havent tried it yet but have no doubt it will). I have all the topo maps loaded on the handheld also. It is a small screen and sometimes a little bit painful to use, but with a little effort it works great. It just didnt have the Prineville to Seneca portion.

Sweet. Thanks. Will do.

I just did a quick read through of this thread, @tacosupreme (or maybe other Oregonians) can you speak to any required permits? I know Oregon has an OHV sticker that a lot of folks in the local off road club grab when they head down there.

If your rig is plated, no permits are required. If you were in a rock crawler or on an ATV that wasn't plated, you are supposed to get an OHV permit (although Oregon honors many other states OHV stickers) That said, there is very little chance we will see anyone who would care to check.

It matters where you are. In all of the OHV areas around here you do have to have an OHV sticker (regardless if the vehicle is plated). However, it sounds like most of the area we are going is all forest service roads and ranch roads which there should be no permit required.

I am sure this time of year we are good to go on fires also correct? I guess that is one nice thing about going this time of year. I know as we get later into the summer they really clamp down on open fires.

Fires will be fine. Yet another reason we need a chainsaw.

PM'd both of you. I think anyway. Is a PM the same as starting a conversation? I've never been sure.
