I think having a hundy along would be great. My brother is most likely going to be joining me on this trip. I'm really starting to get excited. Been doing a lot of prep work on my old goat.

New dual batteries should make the winch happy and hopefully a 12 volt fridge as well. Need to see how long the funds hold out. :hmm:

I've been dinking around with mine too. Got my CB tuned up, fresh air filter, new shoes, brakes bled, fixed some minor electrical issues, etc. Have to remember to install a new passenger window switch too. Keep forgetting I have it, until the wife rides with me. "Can you roll down the window?" doh. We're building fence this weekend if you get bored come over and kick tires.

So, with great regret I have to count myself out as I'm going to be on the road for work from mid April until about the end of May. June through the end of the year will work great for me but unfortunatelynot May.

My apologies for fully ghosting out of the thread here, feels irresponsible, but also glad to see so much action here as well!

I'm happy to edit the first post and/or link to another summary planning post so there is a single source of truth for times, dates, people, and route, etc.

Cougars and I don't get along too well. My parents have a ranch out in "Twickenham" and they DECIMATE our deer out there. Luckily, they only get a few elk. We usually "take care" of them every couple years. I think it was 2013 when we "took care" of 6 of them. Caught 3 on a couple trail cams last hunting season, so this year will be another clean up year.

Looking forward to the trip! Hopefully the snow melts more!

I bass fish and camp at Priest hole quite a bit, I dig it down there. I have a cougar tag in my pocket if your folks need a hand. It's hard to spot those wily boogers, I wish they'd open up hound hunting again. The snow is going fast, I think we'll be ok and with a group this size plowing into a drift or two won't be a big deal.

Priest hole is about 10 miles down river, I think. I've never been there, but we often fish during deer season and talk to the guys floating down the river; Priest hole is a common destination for them. They'll park one truck there, and drop their pontoons in at Service Creek. There are some great, BLM owned, canyons to hunt between those points, and even better fishing.

I too am no fan of cougars. Although I would love to "take care" of one someday. When elk hunting on the coast I constantly feel like they are watching me. Creeps me out.

I am also getting everything ready on the vehicle. Gears, lockers, RTT, CB installed, on-board air plumbed etc... I think we will have a pretty decent size group.

Your inbox is full... Tried to start a conversation with you to talk coast range elk. I remember you said you're from Seaside or somewhere near by. I am as well =)

I was hoping to make this trip, I was waiting to find out my schedule at work. I just found out I'll be in a training class for two weeks over the weekend of this event. Would anyone that's attending this trip be willing to send your GPS track so I can make this trip later this summer/early fall. Thanks in advance.

Thanks Taco, PM sent. I'd keep those maps, just incase someone runs out of TP.

+1 on the GPS tracks please

I got the tracks already which will be nice and helpful. I know we are meeting at the gas station in prineville. But do you have the coordinates for where we jump on the forest service road out of prineville? The gps tracks didn't cover any of the route from prineville to Senecca.

They do cover that section. I noticed on google earth the time slide bar in the top left of the screen needs to be expanded. Apparently the dude ran it in sections over several years, so the date stamps on the tracks are different. If anyone wants the tracks, PM me you email address. It's too large of a .GDB file to PM here, it has to go through email.

Just so everyone knows, we will head North on Main St, and at the Y hold right on to Mckay Creek Rd which then becomes NF-33.

+1 on the GPS tracks please

Just need an email to send it to.

Just bought a new Midland portable CB radio for our trip. (Model 75-822) It seems like it will work well. I need to tune my antenna however. Anyone have an SWR meter they can bring along?

Hey All, I'm another Seattle guy here with a decently built 80. I'd love to join this trip and I'm seeing if my schedule will allow it.

I have an Anritsu spectrum analyzer and bird watt meter, but you don't really need any of that. 234/freq(Mhz)= antenna length in feet.

Example: 234/27.185Mhz (Channel 19)= 8.607 feet. Divide by two if you want a short antenna, or in two again for a super stubby. You can fart around with SWR to really fine tune it, but it functionally won't matter as far as range or sound quality. The above formula will get it really close. Now, if you are using any amps and are pushing any sort of serious power, put a meter on it, but this method is good enough for the girls we go with.

Thanks taco. I will try that. I got a mag mount antenna. Where do I take the measurement from. Top if the base?
