Just looking for some guidance, I have replaced the cable and can spin the cable at the transfer side and get the needle to move but when attached I get nothing. Original cable was pretty rough but still intact.
Yes I have searched. Thanks in advance m

Speedo gear would be my 1st inclination. Especially if you can get the needle to move while disconnected from the tcase.

These are a matched set to the drive gear on the transfer case output shaft. You do not have to replace the drive gear unless it damaged. These are metal. Year of the transfer and teeth on the driven should be all you need know which gear you need. The year and month is stamped on the transfer case.

Thanks a bunch. I’ll pull it and inspect, until then I’ll use my phone.

Original cable was pretty rough but still intact.

The rough turning cable is what wears the driven gear in the transfer case. I've pulled the inner cable and lubed with white grease to free up the cable. If the cable outer coating is worn to where you see the metal case some heavy tape in the area will help with dirt, salt and moisture from getting in the cable.

Alright what is the best source for the drivin gear assembly. I still haven’t removed it as it’s frozen. Kroil oil working. I would just want to try and get one on the way.
Thanks

Try Specter Off Road aka SOR. As I recall they have a pretty good exploded view diagram.

You should wait. There are six different ratios iirc. When you pull the driven gear out, the ratio you need will be stamped into the shank of the gear. Hopefully it is 6x17, as that may be the only one still available.

I show the 18X6 using a different drive gear than the 15X6, 16X and 17X6. Issue is the pitch of the ring, wrong and it will wear the driven gear quicker. I have no parts books or microfiche for any newer than 3/69 and count on internet. I show the 18X6 used in North America in 78 which I believe the original posters has. I find the part number ending in 65 available. It only the 15 which the part number ends in 55 which is NLA. The lower count is popular because it helps the speedometer with larger tires. Not sure but think the 15 count was used with 3.70:1 diff gears and 16" wheels which the US never had. Which would explain which US doesn't have that one listed.

Thanks to all the replies from elders. I was unable to remove the gear. I need to leave on a fishing/turkey hunt this weekend. I will keep soaking it and update you folks with what I figure out. Just use my ear for rpms
