what speakers fit in the 60?

Crutchfield says all speakers require some sort of modification to be done for proper fit.

6.5" fit fine in my FJ-62, both front and rear. I think FJ60s may not have cargo area speakers quite like FJ62s. Also, with any old Toyota, be aware that speaker depth can be an issue with rolling down the front windows. True with any vehicle, but it sometimes matters more in old Toyotas with thinner doors. Crutchfield seems to often indicate that mods may be necessary, where reality doesn't bear that out.

5 1/4" are stock for front doors with a three screw mounting platform. However many modify either the interior door skin or door panel to accept 6 1/2" speakers.

Rear panels on a 60 do not have speakers so you have to modify but 62 I believe is 6 1/2" or 6x9".

I had some speakers installed earlier this week........... stand by while I go snap some photogs for your consideration and enjoyment.

Replace the front 6.5"s and added two 6.5"s in the rear. Trim rings to add depth were required for the front door speakers. I believe this is to clear the window regulator stuff. There were no previous speakers in the back.

For whatever the reason....... my pics are not attaching.

Yup one thing to be aware of is that the front doors require shallow mount speakers to allow the window regulator to clear. Hence why people end up mounting to the outside of the door panel and not the door mount.

Looks good. I need to do that ASAP!

So without tearing my truck apart I could get 6.5" in in the front doors and the trunk?

I just have to use spacer rings so I don't have to use shallow mount speakers?

If this is the case I have to amp some decent speakers to fill the space with sound.

Affirmative.

Spacer rings are not needed for the back though. Heck, you could probably put some sweet Jensen Tri Axles 6X9's in the back.

Look WWAAAAAYYYY back in my build thread... put in RF Prime 6.5" in the front doors with a small 1/4" spacer on the backside of the panel for rigidity and did RF Prim 6x9s in the rear.

I considered 6X9's in the back but figured four 6.5's would kill all wind noise sufficiently.

Depending on the type you get they probably would... I think @Juggernaught even went as far as to build a box for the internal rear fender void for a shallow mount 10" sub in one of his builds. Also think that Jason (@reevesci) did the same for Blue Marley

I would prefer to avoid cutting panels. That means I'm stuck with 6.5s.

What's the sub solution of choice?

I'm just a simple man with simple plans. No amps, booster, buzzers, tits, tubes, hot plugs, hot dogs or subs........ that stuff is just out of my tax bracket.

Other that that, I'm seriously considering tossing my name in the hat for the GOP nomination.

Yeah I am with @dukmon in that I have not extra amps or anything like that... Though I would and plan to in the future. Really it all depends on how much room in your rear you are willing to take up. Since I have two large dogs that I take everywhere with me I cannot do a box back there.
I have been looking at either an 8" or 10" Bazooka tube sub that has its own internal amp OR one of those slimline amps that you can find on Crutchfield or Amazon to go under the rear seat bottom.

As another, no-cut option...

I found this recommended In a Mud thread (search should find it), and it is both totally hidden under my seat, and totally removeable if need be. It really fills out the range well, only misses really deep thumping bass songs. Inexpensive too. I have read about others putting two in for more bass, but one works well for me. The amp is built in, the controller hides easily and can add bass volume when needed, or vice-versa. Not a stereophile level thing, but pretty good.

Ohhhh looks promising.

I understand, for 150, you aren't getting audiophile quality.

Where is it stored? Under the drivers seat?

What size is the actual speaker? Pics?

Thanks

It slides under the front seat. Either one. Or both. Comes with an L bracket to mount with screws but really since it is laying flat why bother? I put a bit of adhesive Velcro (stiff side) on the box, hasn't budged. It has a wired remote, which has a cutoff control (redundant with my pioneer head unit's controls), and a bass volume control, which I stuck to my console under the cup holders out of sight. I can reach under and adjust for songs with a lot or little bass. Really it's a powered 6x9- not a sub technically. Midrange gets a big boost, adds a lot of depth to the sound and saves the smaller stock locations for higher frequencies.

I have the Kenwood underseat sub installed under my driver's seat. Gives enough bass to hear it. I put RetroSound R-525N in the front doors of my 62 and didn't have any issues with depth. They aren't great, but removing the bass from them and having it go through the Kenwood cleans up the audio alot.
