Then I decided it was time for more arts and crafts, and I made a firewall pad to complement my engine side work. This is another DEI product, Boom Mat Under Carpet. It's a layer of mass loaded vinyl with an acoustic foam bonded to it.

This is awesome and also insane, lol. This is basically what I would like to do with my 80, but I was barely able to get the dash out and back in without having an aneurism. Kudos to you.

How far in to the dash did you go ? If you got down to heater core level, and it all works after you put it back, you're probably qualified to do about anything now....

Speaking of the heater core, I was not going to put that dash back together without a new heater core if I could avoid it. Surprisingly this was one of the bigger challenges of this project, OEM is NLA, and all the available aftermarket options seem to be generic fit and I wasn't sure I wanted to trust the quality. Old school radiator shops seem to be few and far between now,. I eventually got lucky and found one only about 40 miles away. I believe they said they are one of two shops remaining in the general Atlanta area. Their first option was to find another Toyota part that had the same core, but different tanks, and swap my tanks out. on a new OEM unit. They didn't find anything still available, so option two was a new core. I'm told (and no, I haven't verified it) that this is a USA made core from the last remaining manufacturer in the country. I believe they said in Arkansas. They apologized for that expensive brand new core looking like hell, but said it was due to the soldering, tanking and testing process. I guess I'll buy that, I've never had one done before. Also soldered up the two piece failure point, I mean joint in the pipe...
Cleaned up the heater box, painted a few parts, replaced some foam and lubed the linkages. Ready to go back in.

Busted, Datsun 240Z G Nose ?
I have had a Z in one form, or at least in pieces, since I think 88. Multiple 280Z's, horrendous bumpers aside, I love the combination of the S30 body with FI (VAF on the 80 looks reeeaaaaly familiar). A couple of Z31's (86 and 88T) and currently a Z33 Roadster and my eye on the next gen. Ironically, the actual subject of the account name was put on hold yet again when I started diving in to the 80.

Z32 5 Speed. I guess the CD009 is the hot swap now, but I have been working on this thing for a long time.
Your 240 looks great, but how much crap do you get for not doing a restoration to original on a Series 1 car ?
SN 13, a Butterscotch car like yours was originally (*edit, or was it yellow ?), randomly showed up at our Z club show back when I was in NC. I need to find some pics.

When I bought it the original motor and trans were gone. Still caught crap tho.Z32 5 Speed. I guess the CD009 is the hot swap now, but I have been working on this thing for a long time.

So, what are those amazingly fabricated black metal thingies I have here you ask ?
Well, it started with a bit of an identity crisis, as my 80 no longer identifies as a 3 row SUV. The third row seats aren't going back in, The third row latch bars were all pretty cruddy, and I wanted a flat floor anyway. Luckily for me (less so for others who are keeping the seats) the ACC carpet doesn't have the valleys for the seat latches molded in anyway. I had to fill the bolt holes with something, and I didn't want the carpet sagging in to the valleys, so... I cut some plates out of (I think) 11 gauge I had lying around, drilled some appropriately spaced holes, and painted...
Some weather strip foam, just because it seemed like a good idea to keep things from rubbing and squeaking...
You get the idea...
And done....
Sorry about the crap lighting, but it does a good job of hiding my poor workmanship.
Now I have to go see a patent attorney before @NLXTACY or @Delta VS sees this and make millions ripping off my idea...
