:)Anyone had any adverse affects with the installation of NGK G-power platinum spark plugs with fine wire center electro (BPR5EGP) with your D.U.I. after market distributor? Were working with a 1980 FJ40 2F. I know it a touchy one to gap to .50 - .55 due to the fine wire but other than that I am thinking of using this type instead of the standard copper core type.

I doubt the plug type would make any noticable difference. You don't want to increase the plug gap over the stock specs. Platinum plugs last longer.
 
Yeah I hope they do last longer as the price is platinum.
What would the reason be to keep the plug gap as close to factory specs from the .50-.55 specs given by the makers of the D.U.I.?
I think (correct me if wrong) .32 or so was the spec for stock plug gap. If I left it at that gap or close would it not burn up the plug tips due to the high volts?
I will check into that.

.5 can't be right if it is either mm or inches.

Larger plug gaps lead to higher voltages, which can break down the insulation leading to reliability problems. Manufactures know what plug gap works for their engine, so I just take their word for it. There is no up side to running a wide gap. If there was, then manufacturers would recommend it because it is free.

My blunder, I meant 0.050 in or 0.055 in for gap.
I bought the plugs today and will gap them at 0.040 to start with which is close to the stock setting of 0.039 for a 1980 with a 2F, not 0.032 in as stated (boy, not my day for numbers).
Question, the instruction for the settings of the D.U.I. state to also set the timing to 10-12 BTDC from the standard 7 BTDC,
I presume that this will help the advance of the spark in the DISRIBUTOR to bring out its best in performance.

Since you're using an HEI distributor, I'd go by stock specs for a GM engine (a late 292 maybe), not stock Toyota points ignition specs.

I don't think he will need to go any wider than .040

Even my LS3 with coil per cylinder only gaps at .040.
