Potentially a dumb question - I just relocated my spare tire to the stock location after removing my hitch. 33s. It seems to move quite a bit side to side even though it feels like it's as tight as it can go. Could I have put it in there upside down? Any other explanations or is this expected?

Outer side faces up.
Yup got that.

There should be a “finger” on the channel/part at the end of the cable that lifts the wheel.
The “finger” fits into one of the bolt holes on the wheel and centers it, and may help seat it better. Mine does not wiggle when the “finger” is in the right place.

Lol.
Sorry, man.
I couldn’t think of another/better way of writing that just now.

It looks like I have that part right in the last 4-5 seconds of that video above. I'm assuming there isn't a specific bolt hole it's supposed to be in and the flat piece on the opposite end goes against the inside of the wheel across from the bolt hole.

I looked at the video as well, and thought it might be out of position. Could just be the point of view.
I played spare switch out twice last week and ended up holding the hanging bracket in place in the wheel by the cable with one hand while taking up slack in the cable the other hand using the jack tools.
It does seem to have “a spot” that seats home, so to speak, and droops out of it easily if not watched.

no worries. I'll try again tomorrow and I'll try to flip that bar in the picture back around. The previous owner flipped it up to fit a larger tire but never put the tire back down there.

The U shaped bar that's bolted to the crossmember in your last picture is upside down. Unbolt it and turn it around. There should also be a larger tubular bar at the back end of the tire, make sure it's there too.

Large tubular bar at the back is not there. There was a hitch there that I removed to fit the tire. So I need to go find that part somewhere is what you're saying?

What year/model are you working with here?
The tubular bar has nothing to do with the hitch. If your rear spare bar is MIA and your front is already flipped you might as well put some 1.25" spacers between the frame and crossmember to raise the spare up higher... Depends on year though.

2001 body. 2006 frame I believe.

Think I could just some washers instead of making spacers like in that thread?

I think you are missing a part.... the bracket aft of the spare tire. .
