Two questions on this swap...
1. The 80 series FF rear in NA was also ABS, which I thought had two brake lines from body to axle. Whereas the 60 has only one brake line to the rear axle. Am I mistaken, or is there a workaround?
2. I have 4Runner front calipers - can these be made to work with the rear discs on the 80 FF? Would I need a different master cylinder?

1. There is one brake line to the axle, and it splits to each caliper. It drops on the same side as the 60.

2. I'm told that the '93 non-abs 80 series will work with 80 front calipers and 80 rear discs. This might be something to look into if a better suggestion doesn't come along below.

friend I am getting the axle from doesn't have calipers for it so I need to source those. Any fancy upgrades or go stock?

I want a functioning ebrake back there.

He also said he doesn't have a sway bar for it so I'll need to buy a 96 or compatible FZJ80 sway bar off someone.

I would imagine the stock calipers will be a "pretty fancy upgrade" over what you have currently. I don't think there are any caliper upgrades for the 80 FF yet. Probably new softlines, calipers, and rotors will be night and day over what you have now.

I ran a set of chevy brakes on my rear for a bit until I was sick of not having an ebrake. So I'm used to the braking power.

Upgrade is probably not the word I was going for. Looking for a common vehicle I can steal calipers off of at the junk yard like a 3rd gen 4runner etc.

crusty old 80 calipers are commonly just replaced with remans from napa. Not aware of another vehicle 80s share teh calipers with.

@cruisermatt Thanks for the pics... did you steal the spring perches from another cruiser or did you buy a kit from somewhere? Also, FJ or FZJ axle?

Ruff stuff sells SUA perches. You can try to cut them off the 60 housing but you'd have to have a plasma or be real good with a torch. I don't think you could get close enough with a grinder or sawzall.

I used ruffstuff SOA perches with the 3 holes so I had the option to move my axle backwards or forwards. They took some modification though.

On the calipers I don't think there are any other options currently. I'm sure you'll still be able to lock the rears up before the fronts so no other real upgrade is needed. Unless you upgraded the fronts too.

I'm getting ready to give it a go on my "pickup" without a proportioning valve and see what happens. I imagine I'll need to add a valve since my back end is pretty light.

My FF came missing the calipers and sway bar too. I bought the cheapest calipers I could find that I'll turn in as cores towards the 80 calipers.

The 80 calipers are the only option. I posted in the 80 section and got flamed, something about the way Toyota designed it being end all or something. I intend on finding a 2 piston caliper once I make sure I'm actually getting pressure to the rears (I'm not sure that I am right now)

The 80 rear calipers are 1-piston. I want to find a 2-piston. I have a funny feeling FJ40 front calipers might work back there.

Also note that the e-brake is separate from the calipers, it is drum-brake style inside the rotor with mini brake shoes.

Re-use your 62 sway bar and weld brackets on to the 80 axle. The 80 sway bar is wider than the 62 version and isn't the same.

FJ80 axle is semi-float and drum brakes. You aren't gaining anything by going this route unless you are putting all the 80 rear suspension in as well, then you are REALLY taking a step back.

You want an FZJ80 rear axle (93-97).
Full floater and disc brakes.

I got the spring perches at my local 4WheelParts, they are generic. I think they were $25 for the pair.

No. I never installed mine, planning on something crazy for when I link the rear or SOA it or whatever the hell I end up doing.

The FZJ80 (93+ years) sway bar is beefier than the 62 sway bar. Not by much.

Not sure if swapping the sway bars would be a huge improvement or not.

Looking at my friends FF rear FZJ800 axle this past weekend. The brake lines in the rear go around the back of the sway bar perches/mounts in a way where they could get crimped or smashed by rocks. Poor placement imo.

Not an issue for me since I'll do custom lines.

Randy I have a fancy high dollar flaring tool. If you need help making a new line let me know.
