Gents, I have a question for those that are more educated in this field. At hot idle my edic relay starts to click eratically, even shutting my motor down once or twice. This only happened today. Now, can the regular issue with the melted grease inside the edic motor cause the relay to click eratically, due to the grease shorting the contacts in the motor? Or is this a relay issue. Was wondering if anyone knew before I start investigating and buying parts. Also, I'd be interested in seeing what setups others have come up with as far as shut off cables.
Thanks gents.

Sounds like low oil pressure, hot oil at an idle at a stop light. There’s a low oil pressure switch that will shut the Edic off to save the motor.

Guys, the motor is brand new, just rebuilt. Oil pressure is great, New oil pump, new bearings all around. It's not that. I hear the relay dancing, click, click, click. I'm gonna take the edic off to check if the grease on the gears melted and leaked on the contacts, as it's usually the case with the edic.
Thank you for the pictures too!

Check all grounds from the cab to the engine to the battery.
Short check , connect a startercable from engine block direct to negative on left battery ( 24V i guess ) and see if that eliminates the intermitten behavier

All my grounds have just been installed; they are new. I will check them again.
Thanks.

Some likelihood. I'll open it up. I simply read that when the grease on the gears inside the edic motor melts, it shorts the contacts inside the motor, opening or closing circuits, which explains the eratic behavior of the edic, albeit, occasional.
Will report soon. Haven't yet opened it.

Problem solved! Opened the motor and cleaned out thw contacts. Not sure why toyota packed so much grease in there. Completely unnecessary.

After removing the gears and cleaning the contacts below, I re greased the gears. Didn't take a pic, but works perfectly now. The grease was indeed shorting the circuits below, by bridging the gap between them contact blades. I should think it will be good to go for a long time now.

Positive update, think there is a few guys on mud who had the same problem. Well done.

The relay is the more common problem as the resistors are unsealed copper windings and located in a spot where water over the years may enter in cab and then the copper oxidises.

There are a few fellows making an updated relay with sealed resistors. This may be kept in mind if there are future problems. There is a local electrical wizard here who makes them on reviveyourrig, good fellow.

Overall it is comforting it is such a simple system with three settings, on , off and over fuel. So a bowden cable maybe used if in a pinch, however that mod eliminates the low oil cut off relay switch by bypassing it all.

A healthy edic relay a good unit to have.

Yep, indeed...a positive outcome. The relay has never been exposed to water. I opened it up, looks good.
I may buy a spare to have .. I'll do some searching for the updated version.
Thanks.

God, just a place you would never want to go or witness, running backwards.

I remember Duncan recommending a locking knob, so the cable ensured that the pump remained in the off position. The video of his 2h starting on it's own accord is unnerving. It's ALIVE.!

Edic aint too bad, simple.

Finally the high tech ecu manufacturers have some extremely fierce, fail safe competition!

Unfortunately my wife insists wooden clothes pegs stains the clothes, I'll have to keep a private stash..

Hang it inside out then. Plastic ones aren't retro enough for a 40 ;)

Wow! Had no idea that the motor could actually run backwards. Am I to understand that the exhaust goes through the intake and the fresh air comes in through the tail pipe? I have to try to visualize and wrapp my head around this.
