Hi guys. I ran into a problem with my swap. Engine starts every time but the transmission won't go into any gear, car won't move. ATF is properly filled. Transmission works before I installed it. Wonder what the cause of the issue is. Nothing is plugged into the park/neutral switch. Could it be that no wires are connected into the park/neutral switch? Thanks.

What flash does the ecu have? Do you have fluid in the trans?
Yes I have fluid. Filled it when transmission fluid is hot. I’m using psi provided ecu and wiring harness. Do you need to hook up wires to the park, neutral switch for it to go into gear?

No. But you should hook up a ground for the switch pin that goes to ground at minimum. Even still without that it should shift.

I don't know the 4L60E, but my 6L90E has mechanical linkage. The linkage determines the P/R/N/D.

I don't think the Park/Neutral Position switch stops the transmission from going into gear. What it should be doing is stopping the engine from starting if the transmission is any other position than Park or Neutral.

The transmission needs to be in Park, and the engine running when you fill the transmission. It will be underfilled if you don't have the engine running.

One possibility is you didn't seat the torque converter properly when you attached the transmission to the engine. If you didn't, then you might have caused an issue with the transmission.

Thanks. I filled the transmission with about 3.5 quarts and then started the car and added more. I ended up using about 7.5 quarts. Believe it takes bout 11.5 quarts dry. My transmission had atf. Was reading on the Ls1tech that transmission still would shift into gear without the park/neutral switch. I think psi programed the computer to work without. Will contact them Monday. Stuck in Park for sure, wheels won't spin when on jack stands and when manually moved to neutral by hand. Possible cause "No movement in any gear: pump failure, or total loss of fluid. Remove transmission and rebuild, or refill pan and find the leak. If out of fluid, avoid running the engine until the transmission is refilled to avoid pump damage. To check for pump failure, check fluid level with the engine off, then start the engine and recheck fluid level. If level does not go down when engine is running, the pump is broken". Tremendous time and patience on this ls swap project. Hope it's worth it at the end.

Kind of ran into the same problem with my LM7 swap. My problem was the transfer case. I found it when I pulled the TC off on my way to removing the transmission. I thought I had messed up the pump putting the transmission back on the engine too.

Keep at it. The LS3 and 4L60e is a great swap. Mines in a 40.

Can you please elaborate on what was wrong with the transfer case for you to know that it's not shifting into gear? Appreciate it.

The position switch has nothing to do with the mechanical operation of the transmission on a 4l60 or 4l80. It’s just for lighting up lights on your dashboard and making sure you don’t start the vehicle in gear.

Make sure the transfer case is in gear.

As @fireflyr mentioned, the T-Case can be an issue. Make sure it is in High or Low, and not Neutral.

I had to lengthen the high/low shift rod to accommodate the longer transmission and AA adapter and didn’t have it adjusted correctly so it was in neutral as @cruisermatt and @NeverFinis said. Rookie mistake that cost me some time and effort.

I’m grateful for you guys. I’m such a dumbass. My build I made an intensive quality assurance checklist. But made this idiotic mistake. Guess what? I had to shift to neutral for the transfercase rod to pass and fit through the hole on the chassis. Forgot to shift back to low. Now it shifts!! Thanks all.

We live and learn from our mistakes. Glad was a minor issue. There were so many steps to build this project. This is my first ls build next project will be simpler I hope. Cheers gentlemen. God bless.
