Good Morning,

Sold my well running 2007 100 series with 195k last week while it was still worth a good amount. I knew it was a matter of time before rust issues took things over, ran like a dream but I did not want to invest more in that kind of vehicle. My fault for purchasing one that used to live in WI and MN! Currently daily driving a 2000 996 C4 as I search for something else. My wife has a 2023 Highlander, great car but I honestly preferred my 100 :)

I have watched numerous videos and looked at many posts about the 200 series vs the new 250. I know the 200 is much beefier, bigger, and more solid of a car....though it is $$$$ even used. Being an owner of older German cars (while Porsches are pretty darn reliable), I do not like spending time in an out of the shop, another reason why I sold the 100 series, age catches up to anything, even mine which was very well maintained.

My next SUV preferably would be CPO, unless you guys think that is not a necessity in the LC world? Only interested in something with under 75k miles if I go a 200, and something from down south or out west since I am in Chicago. Seems foolish to spend 40-50k on a used one with 100k miles which needs lots of money put in. CPO 200s are usually in the 60s and 70s, though brand new 250s can be had for that amount or less, depending on model. While I understand the value and quality in a 200 series, they are priced to a point where it just makes since to get a newer car, not to mention potential rust issues. Gas mileage is an obvious winner with the 250.

Not going to lie, I prefer the 200 as it is more refined and premium versus the basic 1958 model, also has the split tailgate and the v8.......but the new one seems better for daily driving with its gas mileage, is more nimble, not to mention full warranty of a new car as well.

We have a smaller border collie around 30ish pounds and will be having a child in the next year for some background info.....thanks for listening, any advice is appreciated

I just spent brand new 250 money on a used 200 with 58k on the clock. Why? There is no replacement 200, short of possibly the 300 (in Lexus guise). That they placed a Land Cruiser moniker on the Prado doesn't make it equal.

It's not that the Prado is a bad truck, it's just a different class of vehicle. For your use case it might be a better daily if the slight gain in fuel economy and updated tech is important.

Thanks for the reply! Also to note, no off roading for us but plenty of road trips, camping, hiking, mountain biking…..forgot to mention that

Only thing I appreciate them doing with the LC 1958 is the barebone options list while still being a modern vehicle with tech.....wish the 200 was offered in the US that way!

While a 'poverty pack' 200 trim level is oft spoken of in high esteem, there's really nothing from the luxury adds that is problematic, other than MSRP. It's not like an early 2000's domestic where the electronics and power windows start failing 5 years in. True, the 200 LC would have sold much better with a RoW package, but in the US it was marketed as a flagship not as a utility truck.

If you're in the 200 LX world, there is additional maintenance with the AHC. But you'll probably end up paying more for a suspension on a 200 LC.

I am not looking to part with my 200, but I did just add a CPO 2023 Defender D90 Trophy Edition. I gotta say - it's nice. I paid 58% of original MSRP for an example with just 2,700 miles on the odometer - basically new. I realize a 90 isn't everybody's cup of tea, but I wouldn't bypass a 110 or 130 at the right price on a CPO. There were a couple of issues that as the new owner I wanted to get sorted, but they were easily handled under the warranty in short order. I've started to peruse 2023+ Range Rovers waiting for someone's dream spec to show up on a dealer lot for the right price........I know, I'll talk to you once the D90 has 25k on it and see if I feel the same 😂

250 is a 996 - POS

200 - is a 993 Turbo S.

Once in a generation.

where does my 996 turbo fit in there? Lol

LX is nice too but then there is the need for premium fuel and most owners do not service the AHC, not to mention it adds an extra level of complexity here in Rustland :)

996 owners who write about mezger all day - are elitist.. want to be different than the pack.. rightfully so.. they don't want to be associated with the POS 996

That same owner would never buy a subpar 250 series. Those are junk Boxster style. True 911 owner wouldn;t ever be caught dead in a boxster.

Be a true Mezger elitist and buy a 200 or 300.

If you want to buy a 250 - you can go to that forum - which is full of people without soul and like $50k boxster owners, that think they own a real Porsche and wants to sit at the same table as us GT3RS owners.

AS IF

Boxsters/996/250= same people.

I have over 600K miles on 200 series platform - on multiple of them (between me and wife) - never put a drop of Premium - and they all run fine. Same as Tundra owning gardeners who never put premium in their 5.7L v8

Fortunately, you still have a Land Cruiser as a tow/recovery vehicle. :steer:

I don’t run premium in my LX

Premium fuel in the LX is a myth propagated by Lexus marketing to make yuppies feel special by putting a little sticker on the filler door of a vehicle with the exact same powertrain, built on the same assembly line.

My two cents: 250 might be a better fit for the mean streets of Chicago. The additional "beef" of the 200 really just translates to poor mpg for suburban commuting. With a baby and a dog, 250 should be plenty. The real advantage of the 200 comes into play when towing is involved, IMO. But if the 250 doesn't float your boat, I get it.

Two more cents: I wouldn't worry so much about CPO or mileage if you've got good service records. Maybe look at older/non CPO options to see if there is a better value out there with a little more mileage than you were originally thinking.

And whatever you buy (especially if taking one from a rust free region to torture it in Chicago), please religiously use rust treatment every year.

buy a CPO truck. Negotiate the **** out of the dealer on a truck that they overpaid for at manheim and has been on their lot for 90 days. Get them to throw in a warranty for practically nothing. I’m no @ryanCA but I did fly spirit once.

why does he need a 250 for mean street of chicago

why not a rav4 or 4runner ? If he will go commoner, loser, might as well go all the way

200 - or nothing - only motto that matters
