SoCal 80's Logo & T-Shirts

Hey guys, how was your holiday weekend? Did I miss anything?

Anyway, I think we're real close to a logo here, just need some fine tuning.

To summarize:

I think Brent wants more Cruiser and less surfer (and much less swastika). Eric wants a solid Cruiser without the TEQ/sun showing through. Mo likes the TEQ in the setting sun, but doesn't like Hasselhoff. Kevin, Eduardo, Bluto and CSA like the image pretty much as is. Me, I like it, but if we decide to have a solid cruiser, I think we should lose the TEQ and just have a big orange sun (you know, like O.C.). Oh, and I don't like speedos and/or techno.

Shall we wait and see what FirstToy comes up with? Does he know we're partial to the "Endless Summer" concept?

Also, I've attached an additional concept to consider. Just imagine our Cruiser in place of the Woody.

I worked on this this morning, and here's what I was thinking...

The Endless Summer theme is limiting, in that you lose so much of the detail when you render the highlights transparent, and have only the shadows to indicate the lines of the vehicle.

Secondly, it has to be made square...great as a picture, but not as a logo per se. So, in keeping with the idea that you guys wanted a logo, I came up with this. Yes, it's a little like the NorCal logo, but, I dunno....rougher. Not to take away from what you guys already wanted with the Endless Summer thing, but take a look at this and see if this doesn't suit your needs a little better.

Work in progress, anyway....and conspicuously fascism-free! Hahahaha...heh-heh.....uh.....hmmmmmm....

Damn nice! - Perhaps using In Search of the Perfect Trail on the lower side to blend the Endless Summer theme? I like the incorporation of the TEQ in the background.

I've seen stickers, shirts, etc. with square logos as well, but your point about round is excellent and probably better.

I you sure you want the apostrophe in there? I know that is how Woody has it in our area here but it bugs me that it is incorrect. Have to say that I like it in all capital letters. It still has the higher S and C for the same look.





Shahram, If the red area is bigger, as Tare suggested, could the rear roof corner fit inside the red along with the passenger front tire? Lastly is it possible to draw in a safari style roof rack. I think it looks great without, just curious. With the additional detail it might stand out and look different. Again, thanks for the work. I like this one better than the endless summer one.

Yeah I like the logo theme better but this version looks too "Japanese" for my taste, you know all my skin bros will be raising their eyebrows and going off on peral harbor tangents and all

Loose the TEQ symbol and replace that with Mountain Top outline on top with a beach scene or something on the bottom and think about a different color concept like the TLC logo…white lettering on blue, with yellow, black, red.

Don't thank me, I'm having a great time!

I can balance the "In search of..." in the middle. Can't do lower case letters in this font. It just doesn't come in lower case letters. I could try another font, but it won't have the same feel. As for the apostrophe, I tried it with, and without. The balance goes a little weird with the apostrophe. The "s" in "80s looks too far, when the letters are arc'd in this fashion...

As for the front wheel coming out of the circle, I kind of liked that part. Don't get me wrong, I can change it, but there was something, I don't know, maybe more dynamic about the Cruiser coming out of the picture, something less organized, less hinged. I'll change it tomorrow afternoon, and we'll see how it looks.

As for it looking too Japanese, uh, hate to break it to ya, but your VIN starts with a "J" for a reason...

There is nothing more pleasing to the eye than a crossed-up Cruiser. I too like this idea better than the "Endless Summer" concept. It has several benefits:

1- It is simpler to draw

2- With only three colors it will be cheaper to print

3- It is much more sticker friendly

4- It better depicts how we actually want to use our Cruisers

5- It's all about the wagon

That said, I agree with "e" that nobody will know what the TEQ means, and I think it makes the logo unecessarily busy. If we have a strong desire to keep the TEQ, can we have it across the windsheild?

I couldn't agree more with what you've written. Having not looked at it for twelve hours, and then seeing it again, first thought was "too busy", my eye at first was trying to figure out what I was looking at. I'm gonna take out the TEQ, maybe put it somewhere else...

And this is brilliant, so bears repeating:

Actually, it's only two colors. Red and black (on a white t-shirt), or red and white (on a darker t-shirt). Cheaper, easier, and I find this important--much hardier after numerous washings if the blocks of color are larger and more cohesive.

Gimme a couple of hours to work on it.

Now THAT'S DAMN NICE! Damn that's nice - I keep staring at it. It's capturing. It's emphasis is on the 80 w/o distraction elsewhere. Damn that's nice!

How well do you think the cruiser will look on a T-shirt? Bold/dark enough? Probably good on a sticker.

Love how you still incorporated the TEQ.
