i posted up my HDJ81 in the 80 series section.

I managed to convince my Dad to go in on a container with me. He currently owns a 1985 BJ 70. Hes owned the truck for 10 years now and this is his second BJ70. The truck is rock solid. I love that truck to bits. It might be up for sale in the next little while. Anyways back to the point, he ended up with this beaut.

Heres the 73 that my dad decided to take the plunge on. HZJ73 ZX LTD FRP Top with an original 94000kms 1HZ, Five speed, electric difflocks. I love the 70 series, i almost want one but i want the room of the 80.
Never know i might have to get an HZJ77 in the future.

I was told its quite tricky to find a 70 series in good shape from Japan. Even more rare is the 5 speed with factory front and rear diff-locks. I know Radd-Cruisers and Crushers has brought a few beautes in. But man i am excited for him and I. We both have to change out BEBs out after they get inspected.

Trucks left Shanghai the other night on their route to Prince Rupert. Turns out we are Prince Ruperts RHD importing pioneers.
Trucks should arrive on the 17th of Oct.
I will post up the results.

I originally had the same idea years ago, have a set of manuals sitting in the shop with the adapter plates but the electrics work well.

yeah, i am almost more excited for this truck then my 81
i love 70s they just don't have the room i want.

yeah this will be in the works once the 73 will get here
i will be posting it up here.

What year is the 73?

Whats extra ,when its a limited?

Although an auto would be OK with that engine, that was a score to find a manual. 70 series with locking diffs, removable top, HZ engine-what a dream machine. Does it have a back seat and belts? suspension front seats? A couple shots of the interior would be nice.

Good looking rig your dad scored.

The first modification to make is getting rid of the stock resonator, just under the drivers seat.. If it is like my '90 was, the stock resonator is a big restriction in the exhaust. My HZJ lost 3 seconds 0 to 100 by only removing the resonator.

i will tell him that. The truck is now passed inspection and registered. we are now safe. I got to test drive the thing today for a little while. It is definately alot more torquey and lower geared than his BJ70. Though his bj70 and the hzj73 have the same gears (4.11s) it was a nice ride, my first time with a rhd standard. Nice rig overall. we will check out the resonator. Thanks Jim

first, don't be doing anything silly like gettign rid of perfectly good working elec hubs. i have been beating and testing the PZJ70 with elec hubs and have had NO issues. mud deeeep water, ice, snow, sand... they work and work well.
usually when they quit is right after someone gets inside and forgets to "retain" the tiny little brushes back upon reassembly.
most that want you to swap them out are the same ones selling the kits.

you are going to LOVE that 73 for years to come.
<hint: turbo>
in all seriousness, drive it for a while before doing any mods. it is a beautiful truck and as soon as you mod it from stock then the resell value drops instantly.

i can guarrentee that my dad will NEVER mod that truck besides maybe an OME suspension lift and slightly bigger tires. My dad would never turbo that engine. God i love that truck. Wayne what do you figure about the stock exhaust restriction under the drivers seat. Have you taken one out before and noticed a difference?
