So, how much of a liability is a trailer, offroad?

does that boulder on the RTT/trailer help to keep that trailer planted in the ruff stuff.? How did you get it up there? it must weigh a good 1500lbs........:D

some good thoughts up there
reconsidering my trailer use some, the freedom of being unencumbered is indeed a big plus. And sure don't want to do a 50 point turn with a trailer on a switchback road...
thanks

we pulled a trailer down Baja and disliked it so much that we drove all the way back to California to redo the setup, ditch the trailer, and point south again.

in countries where they don't build roads for Semi trucks, a trailer can actually be a real hassle to park even on-road. Unless you can parallel park with your trailer. It isn't easy to do.

off road, the trailer was ok. Not terrible, but in the end we strongly preferred to simply pack a little lighter and not have the trailer.

YMMV.

If I lived in the States and was doing weekend/weeklong trips that involved a base camp. I would be very tempted to build a little teardrop trailer or a pop up, or an m416 w/ a RTT.

It would be convenient to have the trailer prepped and ready to go, just grab food, wife, dog and hit the road.

Hey Kurt, you forgot to mention that you also did hole-in-the-rock trail with your trailer. go to cruiser outfitters website and check out his pics. impressive!

That IS a feat! Can't really imagine that one after doing HitR this past spring sans trailer. Wow!

While not an overly difficult trail it was a great test for the prowess of my setup. The tent on the trailer (was running a gen 1 Mombasa at the time) actually contacted the hardtop of the Cruiser coming down this climb.
